It appears that the committee boat made an error which confused everybody. the damage was restrained to skipper egos. This untimely event will actually help our local economy as I'm confident professional ship wright Tom Wellborn will be receiving calls for repair jobs m the very near future. From the beginning, Magnitude decided to hug the coast while Christine went deep. The problem is trying lo determine whether you want to go for the wind, wtuch ads much more distance to the race, or, go tnside the shorter route, but face the possibility of light winds. It was Pyewacket's gameplan to stay close to Magnitude, as Disney knew she was going lo be our toughest competitor. At approximately 8:30 p.m. we determined we had pulled even and were paralleling about a half nule apart. That's when things started gelling interesting. For three more hours we jockeyed for posibon, exchanging the lead every three or four minutes. After passing the Coronado Islands, we changed sails six times. When it was detennined that we had established the lead and it would be tough for Magnitude to catch us, we went into a ma tch racing mode and matched every Magnitude tack We then set our sights to break the long-stand.mg hrst-to -firush mono-hull record set rn 1 qs3.
