NEWPORT BEACH -The.oty's Parks, Beach-

week will start rrnflmg a new plan for Bomta
Canyon Park thdt will ht mto recently' released
budget figures.
The City Council on Monday. night sent the
plans -which were born from rune community
meeting~ and public heanngs -back to the com-
mission after learning that the proposed baseball
and soccer helps, baor;ketbdll cmd tennis courts
were about $4 million over the $3.25 million allo-
cated to the project.
The 33.5-acre park -bordered by Bomta
Canyon Drive,· MacArthur Boulevard and Old
Ford Road -was the tenterpu~ce of the city's
Bonita Canyon clnnl'Xclbon dcdl with The Irvme
Co and the NPwpott-Mcsd Unified School Dis-
tnct.
It is separated mto three sections the piece
next to MdcArthur 1s the "west sports ared," the
piece bordered hy P1t1nie Rodd dnd Mesa View
the "edst" and the piece in between is the "IDld

Pat Beek, chdtr ot the commiss1on, sdid com-
missioners were not given the cost estunates or

Another potenltal glitch 1s the cinnexclt1on
agreement betwee n the city t1nd The Irvme Co ..
which reportedly says th~ $.1.25 million -which

Ferryman's
vote not seen
as · unethical
I am astounded that anyone in the
Newport-Mesa. school d.lstnct would
question Jun Ferryman's motives regard-
ing the teacher salary increases (•Ferry-
man's vote on teacher raises ~ing ques-
tioned." Sept. 11) • . ,
Fenyman has given hundreds of hours
in his role as board member, and each of
those hours was spent for the good of the
distnct as a whole, not for tndividua1 peo-'
ple, includJ.ng his wife.
I am not sure why this article w45
publlshed in the first place. The issue is
moot,,as it dJd not matter whether Ferry-
man abstatned. Based on the 7-0 vote,
tbe teacher raises would have passed
anyway.
