This is one
cool psychic,
Illy friends
Know howtimo
My psychic told me.
Yes, I've been read. After
bashing Orange County Fair
psychics a few weeks ago for
denying me a reading, Ma-Lie
Johnston of Costa Mesa called to
tell me not all psychics are
flakes. She offered a free session -
as proof.
So I went. Glad I did. It was
fun, informative and interesting.
Some psychics, obviously, are
better than others.
Ma-Lle is a cool older lady
with friendly ways and the Mid-
west in her voice and heart. Not
only did she read and predict,
she gave advice, and showed me
pictures of her grandchildren.
It was my first psychic experi-
ence since an old Gypsy (cliche,
but true) read my palm in high
school and told me to pursue
writing. A friend in college read
my tarot cards, but that was so
freaky I don't discuss it.
Ma-Lie is a •spiritual reader,•
as her business card states. She's
also local, moving lo Costa
Mesa 34 years ago after years in
South Dakota and Wyoming.
She charges the going rate: $30-
$50 for an hour session.
The reading, tbough not para-
normal beyond belief, was pro-
fessional and informative. It was
no-nonsense, just like Ma-Lie.
' . beads, incense, smoke, mirrors,
et al. Just chat.
W e met in her quaint home
on the East Side and chat-
ted about how psychics are mis-
}lnderstood. Ma-Lie said some
folks think psychics are sacrile-
gious. Not true, she said. She
made it clear that she frowned
on witchcraft and voodoo.
She asked for a personal
item, so I ga\ c her my watch, a
gift from my parents that shakes
with good vibrations. She held it
during the entire reading.
Ma-Lie first asked, "Who's.
Sarah?"
•A friend,• I replied.
"You can trust her,• she said.
Good to know. Sarah is a pal
who I hang out with in Newport
Beach. She's nice, but we're not
especially close.
Ma-Lie said I was about to
take a short trip. 'Ihle, I am. She
