As they should. lt has taken nearly 1,000 years for the Scandinavian ship -Christmas tree in tow -to make its way to the Southern CaWomia shores, said Castle '"Skip" Newell, who owns the 10,000-pound craft with lus wife, Barbara Clausen. •we thought it would be fun to act as thougn we were lost at sea for 1,000 years and then find ourselves m the middle of a boat parade,• he said. The 60-year-old pitch pine vessel, named Egret, is one of 150 boats participating in the 90th annual Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade. The procession of bedecked boats will circle the bay from 6:30 to 9 p .m. daily through Wednes- day. Hosted by the Com- modores Club of the Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Com- merce, the event also includes Viewing elaborately trimmed waterfront residences.
