The tum-of-the-century landmark was
saved from demolition last year and

is about to return to the Ordllge County Per-
forming Arts Center, standing strong on the
opposite side of the stage to which he was
accustomed. not as a ~ecurtty guard, but as a
Stomper.
•The boots I wear on stage a re my work
boots from when I was workin g at the arts
center," the Costa Mesa resident said. Excit-
ed to see his former co-workers, Palmer says
he's nervous about performing ln front of lus
wife, Sharon, and his friends and family,
although he appreciates their support.

So it was no shock that
~hile working as a secu-
rity guard at the The
Center just a year ago,
he was bombarded with
sugge~tions by friends
and family that he audi-
tion for Stomp. When the
8ud1tions came to Los
Angeles, Palmer fdXed
his resume and pictures
to the audition committee, to no immediate
avail.
After 10 months of bearing n othing,
Palmer received a call that the pr<>(iucers
were interested in seeing hiqi audition in
)i(ew York. Palmer borrowed more than
$700, traveled aero s the United States and
made the final cut.
"There I was," he said, •t.tus 250-pound,
35-ycar-old guy from L.A., in a room full of
lean, young danceni. •
Since he began traini]lg for Stomp on Jan.
19, 1998, Palmer has toured the United
S~tes, •tore up the house" in Canada, and
is excited to be a part of the upcoming Euro-
pean tour.
Palmer was tt military police officer for SIX
Y,ears. and brings that experience with him
to the stage

has been my goal to write matenall
to which the average boater can
identify, as 90% of the boats in our
harbor are owned by a novice with
a few extra dead presidents.
I call my style "decaffeinated"
boat writing, as the red.1 thing
would require far too much
knowled9e that could not possibly
be disseminated by a weekender
cruising with fenders drag~g.
. However, every once in A
while, 1 throw in a little caffeine as
my column has made a few people
nervous dJld even tremble. The
rernairung 10% in the sea are
either hardcore sailors or
comm.Jtted enthusiasts.

Now I realize some of you more
seasoned sea veterans sometimes
think I cclme from the shallow end
of the gene pool However, now
you realize this is not so. It's my
decaffeinated style to assist the
other 90%, hopmg, dS a result,
they might learn something from
what has spewed from my
keybodrd.
One person who certainly
quahfte as a veteran of the wind
is Pease Glaser (pronounced PZ.).
Although Pease holds a
mechanical engmeenng de~rce
from Illinois. her passion lS racing
one·des1gn boats
In 1986, she trdveled west lo
tram for the 1988 Olympics m the
470s class. Pease is married to Jay
Glaser, the 1984 Olympic silver
medalist m the Tornado class Jay
owned Danger Sails m Long
Beach and merged Wlth Dave
Ullman of Ullman Sails in 1993.
Pease left engineering to ass1St
Jay m his sail busllless but has
always kmdled a pldce in her
heart for racing. In 1992 and 1996,
Pease once again unsuccessfully
campaigned to win a berth on the
Olympic team and ftnally said,
•The heck with it, I'm going to get
'a real job! •
She con\inued to sail Tomados
wtth her husband for fun until
Jay deoded he's going to compete
in the Thals for the 2000 games.
The OJymptcs require sailing be
divided into men's and womeQ'•
classes, therefore eliminated t,he
possibility of a husband and wne--
team. So Pease got the bug again.

decided to team up and after only
one month of practlce, we entered
