Last fall, a group of parents

.. , Mike Jackson, whose passing
was key last spring, will step out
of the back-row shadows to ham-
mer his share of sets this yeft.1.
Though only 6-0, the outside hit-
ter is also an effective blocker.
Sophomore Evan Burden,
<9reg's younger brother, will han-
dle setting chores. until Hansen
returns and could also continue in
J,bat capacity if Conti elects to sit-
uationally use a 6-2 scheme.
Hanson can also set, as can. ·
Mike Jackson, so Conti has sev-
eral options.
· When not setting, Burden and
Uanson will contribute strong
passing ability, and Hanson

Conti exp~cts a breakthrough
season from Morgan Jackson,
though he ffilSsed some presea-

required stitches. .

Right then, all Uelt was frustration. 1 was mfonned during our Ut-

coach SdY that the van.lty team could possiPly lose a few athletes tn
the c:owse of competition, I felt angry and cheated. Not only did my
family pay hundreds of dollars every year to support the team. but L
put in at least 10 hours, mow during race time, of my time and effort·

some of my teammates, l lqiew that I would probably never make thP

• The team became all about indiVidual seat racing rather than
teamwork. People forgot that every partidpant brings something
muque and special to a sport like crew. J didn't want to·be tossed into
the backgroWld just because [ Wa5Jl't going to make lbe national

when it turns into a "survival of the fittest" abnosphern, some people
