• EDrTOR'S NOTE: Costa Mesa Trans~rtation
Manager Peter Naghavi has spent the past few
weeks walking along 17th Street and meeting
with bustn~ owners towdiscuss city p1ans to
widf:n the crowded stretch of road. We talk~
with him Friday after he had met with 52 busi-
ness owners.
What kind of shoes do you wear waJk-
ing 17th Street?
Rubber-soled, so I have good traction.
Have you worn them out?
I really haven't checked. (He lifts his
foot and checks). They're OK. But I'm
going to charge the city manager for
them. ~
What kind of ex~rdse do y&u usually
do?
For the past five to six months, noth-
ing. (He's had tendinitis in his shoulder
from playing racquetball). It's generally
be~n the treadmill. ·
' .
Did walking along \here g ive you any
insight to what should be done?
It actually made me more convinced
that we n~ed to do something. As you
walk for hours and hours. yoo get a dif-'
ferent perspective than just driving f<;>r
two minutes. ...
• What's the most fru51rating intersection
in Costa Mesa?
I would say 17th and Newport Boule-
vard. I think that's also the second most-
congested in the county. It's working
way over capacity. . !>
a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Donations of $7
for.adults and S3 for children are
requested .
