Forty years ago, just like I
today, people in Orange Co'unty
were concerned-about theµ-
• quality of life.• I recall the
1950s .and '60s as being great
years here. Since-then, a lot of
folks hdve moved to O.C. Some
serious planrung ITU.Stakes we re
made ln Orange County in the
past, many by intelligent and
well-meaning planners, busmess
people and residents. Most of
t..hpse people couldn't imagine
the kind of growth that would
occur in Orange County over the
next 40 years. Only a few v1s1on-
aries were able to unagme 0 C as it is today.
Our planners, decislon-makers
and residents of today a.re similar
to those of 40 years ago. Many
are well-meaning, but are
against any kind of change.
Maybe they haven't'been here
. long enough to gain the neces-
sary perspective, and they are
unable to imagine what Orange
County will be like 40 years from
, now. If critical planning mistakes
are made now, they may
irreparably ruin the future in
Orang~ County. Every time we
