Republicans and 110 Democrats
voted against it.

supported Rorbabacher's resolu-

Cox said he suppprted the res:
olution to take a stand against ·
Clinton's lack of a meaningful
China policy.
"What IS nussing in the Clin-

good Judgment and a sensible
negotiating strategy,• Cox said.
Rorhabacher argued with
Cox's dead-on-amval assessment
of the resolution.
"This was more than symbol-
ic," he said. •rt was a vote tllat
could well have started the
process to changing our trading
policies that are hurting our
national security and our long-
term economic stability."
But, Cox said, even China rec-
ognizes the vote is meaningless
now. When its trading status was
in jeopardy several years in a row
earlier this decade, China would
release political pnsoners as a
gesture of good faith in the days
lead.mg up to the vote.
It's stopped doing so, said Cox,
who was tile chairman of tile

The antique mall is a family-run business
with a combined total of more than 75 years
in the antique marketplace. The mall is

American General Store with all its counter
areas decorated with original general store
antiques. The mall was recently featured.in a
travel tour magazine that's distributed all
over Japan as one of the top 10 antique malls
to visit in the Los Angeles and Orange County
areas
Owners Chris and Kim Eckert and Charlie
and Janet Eckert say that they were featured
as one of the top 10 antique malls in a recent
travel publication, because of the high
quality merchandise they require their
dealers to carry
Eckert's is not like the average antique
mall. It has established a level of quality
standards for their dealers and requires them
to stock their spaces with 80 percent q uality
antiques and older collectibles The other 20
percent of the dealer's merchandise can be
newer designer merchandise, such as the
wonderful pillows made from vintage fabrics,
featured in an issue of Country Accent
magazine. made by dealer Caroline Toth.
Other newer "finds" include unique crafts,
folk art, artwork and gift items. This standard
of quality the dealers are required to
maintain has made Eckert's a fantastic p lace
~to shop .
' The store carries fine antiques, antique
furniture. Early American Country, painted
, flirniture, Shabby Chic-style furnishings,
vintage clocks, old dolls, toys. fine glass,
china and pottery.
Eckert's will provide a complimentary map
of other nearby antique malls and shops.

The Loff Antiques
. . rJ t ran Mace, owner of The Loft Antiques, was raised
~ in Port Arthur. Texas. She moved to Philadelphia, •
where she was surrounded by antiques in her parents!:
home. Mace helped her mother raise money for
historical sites in Philadelphia, such as the Old Swedes Churcfi,
which date back. to the early 18th century
After Mace married, she and her husband along with seven
children moved to the we st coast and settled in Emerald Bay
They acquired a building in Corona del Mar, where Mace
operated an antique business for 23 years. After the property
sold, Mace bought a warehouse in Santa Ana, where her two sonc;
now work.
Known as The Loft. this busi ness is the culmination of Mace's
30 years of expecience. She still loves being surrounded by her
antiques, and appreciates the high quality of workmanship and
materials.
