They Jet a patch of hair OD one side of their head grow to about 2-feet long, then yank it a.round and paste it over a bald spot with a big bloop of mousse or hair spray. Very stylish. And very convincing, unless you've seen a hmnan head with real hair before. Even stranger than Donald's hair, what is the deal with these out-of-control air passengers? These are fully grown men and women who cause rlots in-flight because they can't get another drink. or smoke, or whatever. Personally, I am big on man- ners. I try to be civil with every- one, even when it's an effort. and I expect everyone else to do the same -especially on an airplane, peter buff a fer heeven's sake. In iecent reports, we have the puffing passenger on a flight from Europe who stands near a galley and fires up a cigarette because all the seats in the smoking section are taken. The passenger refuses to put bis cigarette out and, in short order, is swinging at flight attendants, male and female. By the time it's over, passengers, flight attendants and the flight engineer are wrestling in the aisle. On a crowded American Air- lines flight, a.businesswoman is upset because the flight attendant can't find an extra pillow for her. When they land, the business- woman passes the offending flight attendant on the way out, then turns quickly and -ready for this? -spits in the flight atten- dant's face. Keep in mind, all this madness takes place in a small. confined space, with other passengers trapped in their sea.ts just a few feet away. No one knows exactly why this is happening more often everyday. As someone who travels a lot, I have strong feelings about obnox- ious passengers. Very strong. I am announcing here and now that I have a solution. Actually, I would use it for much less serious offens- es, let alone this kind of insanity. Irs a liWe extreme. but give it a chance. Causing any kind of a disrup- tion in flight is already a federal offense, but I would make it a cap- ital offense. But here's the contro- versial part. The arrest, trial and exe<.il.tion all take place on the plane. All passengers can partici- pa~ in the arrest, without fear of civil or aiminal recrimination. Once the accused is subdued and strapped securely in bis or her seat, every passenger and flight attendant gets one whack at them. Remember, one whack per pas- senger. We're not barbarians, you know. Passengers can use their hands and feet only, plus briefcas- e1 or wribrellaa ii avdable. Pllgl.lt atteodants can me wine boalm - red or white. The Best Fanner Tan Contest, on Sunday at 1 p.m .. will give first-, second-and third-place awards to contes- tants in three divisions with the best farmer tan on their legs, neck and/or anns. Judges will look for the greatest contrast between tan and natural skin color. A bum is acceptable but fair o(floals don't recommend it. Warren Kingdon has a year- round farmer tan that bJ.s family and fnends think will give him the crown. "I wear shorts and a T-shirt all the time and I have a real weird-looking tan,• h~ said. His milky white natural skin color on his lower legs, neck and arms bas d.ackened so much over the years his upper body looks like a white T-shirt. He got that way from years of being outdoors two to three hours a day coaching youth baseball. His tan became even deeper when he started going to a tan- ning salon to help dear up a skin condition. And to help keep his golden tan -that is so dark now he doesn't even bother with sun- block -he rubs coconut oil on it. "I think it's safer to get a gradual tan than to keep burn- ing and peeling," he said. The Fountain Valley pharma- cist said his wUe and daughter entered him in the competition, DON lfACH I DAILY PILOT Warren Kingdon shows off bis farmer tan of white shoulders and dark arms. but he wasn't surprised. "They tried to get me to do the couch potato thing last year and I said 'No way,'• he said, jokingly. •This wasn't my idea -if I had to choose I wouldn't do this voluntatily. • Kingdon said he's not doing any special preparation.a for the contest, and would never pur- posely darken his skin, but will show off what he's got on his sleeve bne, neckline and shorts line. Contestants CUl enter in one of three divisions -men 1.§..and older; women 18 and-0lder; and teens 13-18. _,,,.,,,. Crime-filled comedy not that funny .1 ... 't's hard to make sense of "Nothing to Lose." Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence are an odd cou- ple in a film that is con- bived, but still delivers lots of laughs and great moments. But underneath the snappy dialogue you John Depko will see a famlliar "buddy• Oick complete with a comedy aime spree. The two main characters are thrown together by plot devices, taken tar from home, and then do things together they would never do alone, such as commit serious aimes that are supposed to make you laugh. Sound familiar? According to Hollywood. being the victim of a terrifying assault is really funny stuff. Get it? You will be expected to laugh at such •bmnorous • felonies as armed robbery, carjacking, kid- napping, etc. Then you're sup- posed to believe the carjacker comes home at night to be a lov- ing father and husband, deserv- ing of your sympathy. SayWbat?I All of this atm.ina1 activity occurs while the characters use the most foul language known to the English-'J>N'ktng world. Are you laughing yet? Get used to it. 1b1s is American movie comedy at the end of the 20th century. I for one, am not amused. Advertising executive Nick Beam (Tun Robbins) bas a great job and a loving wife (Kelly Preston). That is, until he comes home one day and finds her in bed with his boss (Michael McKean). Unable to get a grip on anything but the steering wbeelol his GMC Yukon, Nick drives atmlegly, ending up in a dangerous part of the City of Angels. Entergun- totlng and would-be rookie C41'· jacker T. Paul (Martin Lawrence). But Nick Jocb T. Paul in the car and takes him an an urban •Mr. Toad's Wild Ride,• ending in tbe Arlzona delert. Prom here, tbe unlUtely pair teams up for one big score to aact revenge on Ntclt's boa. The movie isn't really all that spectacula:r and it contains an 1m"fa8uy tubplol But, as simple entertainment, it's got some hilarious scenes, such as one where an aging store clerk is asked by Robbins to rate Robbins' and Lawrence's robbery styles. Robbins is a very good comedic performer and a great straight man to Lawrence's trash-talking but good-hearted HENRY 'N HARRYS hyper homeboy. They are a kind of bi-racial Abbott and Costello. In truth though, witbout Lawrence, this film would have probably fallen on its face. I find Lawrence hysterical and can't think of another person who could have plllled off his perfor- mance. On the Brunette scale of •Pay Full Price at the Movies,• •Bargain Matinee,• •Video Rental.• or ·wait for Cable TY.• I give •Nothing to Lose,• rated R for language and a sex scene, a •pay Pull Price at the Movies.• Wait until it comes to television •Nothing to 1.oee• ii a buddy/action flick IWling actonlwrttem/dln!don Tun -----RobtJms (·DeadMan Welldng•) and Martin Lawrence (91blnlJne Between Love and Hate"). Straight- laced, suc- cessful Robbins is confronted by a gun-wielding Lawrence. In one of the few original ideas in tb1s movie, Robbins kidnaps Lawrence and GOAT HILL TAnRll takes him to Arizona. Prom that point on, it's the ~te stunt driving, car chas- es and crashes, dim-witted locals and bad guys, and enough swear words for several movies.
