Commission will
consider light-rail plan
•Proposal would bnng train into
Costa Mesa -via Main Street.
!Wt Pilot
COSTA MESA -At its meeting tonight, the·
Planning Commission will consider adopting ao•
official position on the county's light-rail plan.
The commission will discuss recommending that
City Council adopt a route m which the Centerline
Project enters the city via Mam Street, travels west
along Anton Boulevard and stops at a station at
Avenue of the Arts.
This alternative, a~ording to a staff report, will
"have the greatest potential to capture ridership
and conform with the city's deslte for system rout-
mg. •
The commission also will review an application to
allow the Harbor Christian Fellowship Church to
shelter 14 homeless women.
The commission is expected to continue the item
until Dec. 13, when it will advertLse it again,
because the church origmally requested to house
homeless men. According to a city staU report, the
church recently decided to house only women after
discussions with Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter.
The church, located on West Wilson Street, bas
requested a conditional-use pcmtit to use an exist-
ing room as a shelter. The item has been extended
several times since this summer to give the church
time to meet with ne1ghbon; to d1 cuss the proposal.
The staff report saJd the neighbors most often
voiced concerns about noi.se They said that the
church already 1s the source of excess noise in tbe1t
area, and they questioned the ability of church offt-
ciclls to monitor additional noise it the permit is
granted. '
The planning division's staff is 111 support of the
application, said the report, becduse "the shelter 1
could result in fewer homeless people sleeping iJ1 1
the area or elsewhere in the city and ... the shelter is
consistent with the mission of a church.•

ln the regular season that year, the Sailors defeat-

Perunsula later got revenge by def eating New-

Perhaps. ~eir biggest concern
was containing Wamors quar-

they did, for the most part.

El Camino (7-3, 4·1) took

Midway through the second

Pirates in the wrong direction
as Charon Arnold scored on a

lead to 14-3.
"The fwnbles hurt us in the

we had our opportunities to

A 37-yard field goal by
David Davis with three sec-

gave the Warriors a 17-3 lead,
which turned out to !;>e the final
score.
OCC's best shot to score
came with about five minutes
remaining in the ball game
when Jimmie Banks broke
through three tacklers and
scampered 54 yards down to
the Warriors' 8-yard line, giv-
ing the Pirates b.rst and goal.
But two running play , a
