•Young mother, furious after her
son is bumped from his bicycle,
wants city to stem tide of speed-
ing cars on Jamboree Road.
By Jennifer Armstrong, Daily Pilot
EASTBLUPP -Susie Lunny didn't
plan to join a neighborhood cause on
Tuesday, but that changed when she got
a call from her son's school that morning.
Her 12-year-old, Giancarlo Rivera,
had been biking across Jamboree Road
at Bison Avenue when a silver Mercedes
came around the comer out of Eastbluff,
hit his back tire and knocked him into
the b)JShes. The driver looked at hbn,
theD(drove on without stopping, he said.
. Giancarlo, stunned but not badly
injured, rode on to Corona del Mar High
School, where he had been heading
from bis Newport North home. He told
the story to his teacher, who sent him to
the nurse's office.
When school officials called his moth-
er, she picked him up from school
By the time they arrived home, she
was ready to storm City Hall and
demand something be done to improve
that intersection -the cause for much
concern around the neighborhood after a
May 1996 accident there killed Eastbluff
residept 1\"acy Wolonsky.
Lunny filed a police report, which
marked the end of her legal recourse.
But she wanted to do more -so she's
considering starting a petition and lob-
bying city officials for changes at the
intersection.
"Every day when he goes to school,
it's like, 'Be careful,'~ Lunny said. "It's
not that I don't trust my son -it's these
drivers rushing through there.•
What she didn't know was that she
had stumbled upon a hot topic of the
moment: Eastbluff-area traffic problems.

CdM (15-0, 7-0 In league), top-

Woodbridge , (12-3, 6-1),
