• Sea View League individual champion McFall :
nowhere to be found in top 20 at the State Finals. ·'
By Richard Dunn, Daily !';lot
FRESNO -Llving proof that
the Sea View League is arguably
the strongest girls cross country
alliance in the state from top to
bottom came forth Saturday in
the ClF State Championships at
Woodward Park.
While Woodbridge High, a
fifth-place team in the league
finals, won the Division D state
title, the arduous league at the
end of the season would take its
toll on Back Bay teams Corona
del Mar and Newport Harbor. ·we were tired,• CdM Coach
BJll Sumner said. •But that's not
an al:ibl lt's just that week after
week. we face all the heavy hit-
ters.•
The Sea Kings, ranked second
in the state Dtvislon IV poll enter-
ing the pogtseuon behind Cam-
polindo (Moraga), slipped to
foUrth ·place at the state meet as
upstart Costa Mesa won the title.
In tbe Divislon m race, third-
ranked Newport Harbor finished
seventh. The Sailon' top runner,
junior Alida McFall, was less
than 100% physically for the sec-
ond week in a row. She needed
help walking after her 21st-place
finish in 19:26.

been a roller-coaster seasoA emo-

The Mustangs scored 51 points
to win, followed by Campolindo
(80), Nordhoff (81) and CdM (86).
Mesa, also with top-seven
efforts from sophomoreC
Stephanie Landeros (22:16) and
Julie Hitt (23:41), forfeited three
PCL wins ~use of an ineligible
runner this season, a ruling later
altered to keep the runner on the
squad but the Mustangs were still
without a league title.
They defeated every PCL
opponent on the trails and even
won the PCL Pinals at Irvine
