On Monday, Howell told the student to leave a meeting where football players had assembled to elect the season's most valu- able player, driving the student to curse angrily at the coach, police said. Howell later laid be wasn't tbreatened by the student but felt like the boy "crossed the line verbally,• and he called police to avoid having the student •cross the line physical- ly.• •tt was just a procedural thing," Howell said. . Police arrived at the campus and arrested the student outside class at 10:25 a.m., offi- cials said. .
