Electric Scooters were "dropped" onto the Balboa Peninsula 7/28/18 without advance discussion/notification to the City Received immediate response from community ■ City Manager notified vendor the deployment was in violation of Municipal Code Section 10.08.030(A) ■ Requested removal of all scooters from Public R/W by 7/30/18 ■ Vendor Complied -most scooters removed 7/31/18 —City crews removed and stored scooters for vendor pickup Observations and Concerns Scooters were utilized Scooter migration into other neighborhoods and jurisdictions Quick community response Blocked sidewalks/alleys/business access Irresponsible use/pedestrian areas Illegal use by minors Little use of helmets Other vendors are requesting permits to operate in Newport Beach Deployment in other Cities Recent deployment of shared mobility devices without notification similar to many other agencies along with oversaturation has created negative Public Response Many Public agencies have removed scooters from Right of Way Agencies are addressing in different ways Bird scooters: Milwaukee may start impounding on atulr(]�i r, Lime, Bird and Spin have to temporarily remove scooters from SF ...
