Directed by Mark Hale, the a

1985 and is chartered as the Santa

Singmg in Amenca Inc. Members
gather from as far south as San

every Wednesday at the Commu-

rehearse.
The median age falls between
35 and 55, members said.
"What our mission is, is preserv·

Durfey. •A lat of 11 is from the '20s

The chorus adapts new songs lo
the barbershop style too.
"That's why young people find
our music so intriguing," Durfey
added.
The group's repertoire includes
popular American classics, Broad-
way tunes and patriotic songs. Sat-

Frank Sinatra medley with
favorites like •I've Got the World

D' Amore joined the group
because the music -the harmo-

"I also enjoy the fact that it's
clean," he said. "It wouldn't be rat-

D'Amore is an educa tion direc-

don't, they are tbe 10sers, not you.·
f ler ~heory was simple, y9u see.
Everyone was feeling the exact
same w~y I was. Everyone was
wa.iung for someone else to make
the first move because, of course,
it's easier to let someone else take
the chance.
"But,• she said, •is a smile really
taking a chance? It's a mere pleas-
antry, not a cause for ridicule.•
She told me this when I was in
middle school -unquestionably
the roughest time in a dlild's life.
I was so miserable -so awkward.
Children are at their very
meanest during those years, as
parents of Corona del Mar Middle
School !>tudents will attest to.
But I figured~ by God, it couldn't
make Uungs worse. So I gave 1t a try.

great throw to Corey Amet at second
base to cut down a steaJ attempt. ....., Zachary Arane made a play from
deep right field to second for an out lo
save a run. And Juan Moreno at first
