His divine duty
assists city officials
I t has long been SAld that church
and state should rerruun sepa-
rate, but a group of local rrurus-
ters choose to ignore that. •
A nondeno1runabonal group of
about 30 Costa Mesa ourustry
leaders meet once a week to pray
for local Clly officials, said nm
McCaJmont, a pastor a t Presbyter-
ian Church of the Covenant on
Fairview Road.
·we bebeve that the Bible tells
us th~t oty officials are given a
certain authonty by God,· McCal-
mont said. "Even if they don't
believe, they are placed by God to
bnng a certam order to soaety •
Because local pobboans have
such a large amount of respons1bt.l-
ity. McCalmont and his colleagues
take 1t upon themselves to help
lighten their burdPn.
McCalmont said the group
prays for the families of oty ofh-
oals, as well' as the ofhoaU. them-
selves.
"They are people Wee us. and
they struggle with the same thmgs
we do,· McCalmont S&d ·we
pray for God's Wl.Sdom for them as
they make deosions -that he wtll
enable and empower them to
make decisions that are good for
the cornmuruty. •
Local pastors ask counol mem-
bers what Issues they wouJd like
them to pray for, McCalmont said.
