CORONA DEL MAR -
When the Corona del Mar
High girls soccer team
huddled around Ron Evans
alter yet another emifinal
loss. the Sea King Coach
refused to show depression or even signs
of a letdown.
•Don't let this get to you. girls,· said
Evans. who completed his third year
with the Sea King Tuesday, when the
hosts lost, 3-1, to reigning CIP Southern
Section Division IV co-champion
Harvard-Westlake. ·vou come back with

Coast League champions T-shirts
tomorrow. Show pnde.•
Evans' words a.re but of a reflection of
what has transpued over the course of
tus three years as coech of the Sea Kmgs.
His posibve. upbeat approach. espeoally
in Uu.s season's battle Wlth m1unes, has
been a staple of the rise of the CdM
program. CdM ha has won the PCL
the past three years and has earned CIP
Division IV serruluull appearances each
bme. The year before Evans' IU'St year,
CdM went t 1-6-1. 3-6-1 m the PCL and
failed to reach the playoffs for the eighth
straight year.
·we have a lot of heart and I plan to
be back and take another go at It next
year.· Evans, 32, satd. ·we're losmg
some quality seruors. We lost ome
quality seniors last year. but we were
right back Into the final four. And we'll
be back there agam next year •
In Evans' three years. be has amassed
a 58-12-14 record, which featured a 26-
ga.me un~ten tre4k la.st year. Among
tlu.s season's highlights was a regular-
season-endmg 1-0 home victory over
Northwood A I would have meant no
playoffs for CdM. •The girls play for
me,· Evam S&d of the reason CdM bas
been succ ful the past three years.
•They give me everything they've got.·
Before Evans took the CdM guts helm
-a year after coaching the CdM boys -
he cooched at Monrovia High for three
years, lead.mg the Wildcats to their first
CIF playoff appearance Ill 10 yea.rs in his
first year. He guided them into the
playoffs his remaintng two years.
When he came to Corona, he asked
commitment from his players and
produced a llrel work ethic, which
included a ·hell week,· a prelude of
ngorous train.Ing before the hrst game of
the season
·He came my sophomore year and
UlSt4nUy It was a btg turnaround.• CdM
senior Jaclyn Thayer said.
·Before I came to Corona,• CdM
1umor Lauren Shepherdson aid, ·1
