I have postponed all my ocean voyages until the swell heights drop. hopefully by the middle of next week. Looking at the real time ocean buoy reports on the Internet, the swell range from 6.3 feet at the San Pedro buoy with a very close together seven-second intervals 10 8.5 feet at Point Loma buoy with only a nine-second interval. Looking up the coast. we can see that Point Conception is 12.8 feel -ouch. These single-digit intervals are u ually cau ed by strong winds that are predicted to blow 15 to 20 knots. The short intervals mean that the swell faces will be steep. which will cause your boat to pound off the peaks into the troughs. Also, let's 1101 forget that on top or the swell heights, you have to add in wind wave~ of I lo 3 feel that will be spraying over your bow. Other concerns with the big, steep swells are that you will have 10 slow your speed way down. and your overall distance will increase from going up and down big waves. You may still pound off the tops even at the slower speed. and now, fuel might become an issue for you to go the extra distance of up and down, up and d own. What Is tM molt Pf"*Jng iaaue In the atat.7 In Newport-Meu7 I believe the most pressing issue for the state, for Newport-Mesa and for the country Is healthcare. Costs are increasing over 15o/ii on an annual basis, and we spend over 13% of our gross domestic product on health. A single-payer health plan along the tines of those in every other industrialized country would reduce our costs in terms of GOP and reduce administrative costs considerably. Those who criticize this approach attempt to squelch the debate by calling It •socialized medicinew and pointing to the waits for elective surgery in Canada as reasons we should not have a natio~ialogue on this important issue that we all face in this country. I hope to help us summon the collec1ive political will to change the system we presently have. What makes you the best penon for the job7 I am the best person for the job because I am not a politician. I am a concerned citizen that believes that the citizens of this country should speak up and take a stand when government is not responsive to their needs. I am an honest working man that will always remember that I represent the people of the district, not the moneyed special interests. What one thing would you hope to accomplish while in office? Healthcare reform would be a huge accomplishment. I believe the political will is building to make the changes to .our system. I will forcefully advocate those changes. tfow do you rate the feder81 government's handting of homeland security? What ebe can be done, if anything, to make th• U.S. more secure from tem>rism7 For our district, we need to focus on better port security. The Islamic world does not see the U.S. as an honest and even-handed broker for peace in the Middle East. We should endeavor to seek a just and lasting peace for all peoples in Palestine and Israel. That is a keystone issue that needs focus from both the White House and Congress. We also must increase our foreign aid so that our culture, history, and democratic ideals are well understood in the rest of the w orld. What's your opinion of the ~t's proposed guest WOftter program 7 How should the federal government add,..s Illegal immigration? My initial reaction to the president's proposal was that it was a long overdue beginning to the national debate over illegal immigration. We must come to a national consensus on this issue. The main objection I have to the president's proposal is that it ties guest workers to particular employers. This could lead to abuse and exploitation of workers. We should instead focus on streamlining the process for legal immiyration, tiyhtening border security with more fu nding aod personnel, and crad<ing down on employers that hire undocumented worhrs. If the jolJs weren't available 10 illegal 1mm1grants, they wouldn't come. Is there too much spending In the president's budget proposal? How can the deficit be reduced, and should Americans be cone.med •bout it7 The last omnibus spending bill was loaded with pork for near1y every congressional district. I hope the people of the 46th District will join with me to try to stop this budget-busting game that's played every fiscal year. Most of the president's tax cuts had little to do with fiscal stimulus and ignored the middle class. Those tax cuts should be rescinded or allowed to expire. The increase 111 the child tax credit should be retained. The marTiage penalty should be eliminated. The estate tax should be retained. The dividend tax should be reinstated. We need to balance the budget and once again begin to pay down the debt. Then, after our fiscal house is once again in order. we can look to broad·based tax rellel. Carsmetics Revolutionizes The Body Shop Industry. To get a better picture of how revolutionary we are, think about health care years ago. When you needed any minor operation you had to go to the hospital. You had to stay for several days, be subjected to lots of expensive tests and you paid a whopping bill. So what happened? Someone created Outpatient Clinics and they spread all over the country. Now you can have minor surgery in one day with the same good results that you would have in a hospital, but without the overhead, tests and costs. Outpatinet Clinics are a true success story. Well, CARSMETICS is the first outpatient Clinic for body shops! It is truly a unique company. 4$1 Carsmetlcs Is not a traditional body shop. Since we concentrate on smaller repairs, we don•t have the high overhead costs of large frame machinery, wreckers or other expensive equipment. We pass those savings on to our customers.
