little help from the readers.
I need to come up with three
good questions to ask the
candidates. I think I can
probably manage that. but if any
of you have questions you'd
really like to ask and haven't
heard asked at other candidate
forums, just drop me a line
either at my e-mail address or
phone number below.
As for the forum, it will be
held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in
the City Council Ouunbers and
will be broadcast live on AT&T
Broadband Cllannel 3. Even if
you don't send your questions to
me, audience members will have
the opportunity at the last 15 10
20 minutes of the debate to
submit questions that will be
read by Buffa.
Sponsored by AT&T. this
newspaper. the C.OSta Mesa

expected to last an hour. Hope
to see you at City Hall

While the prices do lure customers

upcoming trip to Europe or a nice

town, her cu-;tomers aJso enjoy knowing
that each purchase is a one and only.
"I th.ink the biggest draw, besides
saving the money. is she has one of
everything." Gold said. "I know that what
I get 1s reaUy going to be one of a kind.·
And Palanjian makes ii easy for her

organil.atiun It\ 1101 a junk shop.
Everything -.melJs good. It's fresh and it'~

what you're looking for."
Equating her JOb to that of a personal
shopper. Palanpan makes it a point to
help her customers find exactly what
they want. Ille moment a woman enters
her store. she encourages her to checlc
out every single raclc and try o n as many
clothes as possible.
"I always try to have a nice rapport
with clients,· she said. "I love helping
women ... and I'll call my clients if I get
something in that I th.ink they'll UJce."
By conducting a very selective
consignmen1 operation. Palanjian is able
w maintain a qualJty of clothing that her
customers really appreciate.
"I suppose the fact is that these are
classic things and ... they're harder and
harder to find these days,· Oeely said.
"Her things just never go out of scyle."
When she first started her business
nearly three yea.rs ago, Palanjian relied
on her girlfriends and family members to
search their closets for clothes that met
her approval. Now. while still receiving
the aid of family members in other
states, she has developed a group of
regular consigners who appreciate her
worlc on an entirely different level
"She moves the clothing fast, and I've
made a lot of money there," said Elaine
"lzzle" Izzo. one of the boutique's
consigners. "There's certain things that I
know she won't take. She really likes
designer names and upscaJe clothes and
she'll take some funky things, too. She
has a little bit of everything and
everyone's going to find something
there.·
Palanjian herself often finds it hard not
to fill her clo.-.et with the consignments
intended for her store. Despite her desire
to lceep some of the items for herself, she
knows it's a matter of business. and it's a
business she plans on expanding in the
future.
"I would love to have a larger store,
because there's a need for more out
there," said Palanjian, a mother of three
boys. "But this store is lik.e the little girl
I never had. She's a lot of work. but I
love that every day is a new
experience."

Wess Presson powers ahead for yardage, dragging Laguna Beach's Brett O'Connor in the Sea Kings' 33-16 PCL victQry Friday night.
One would need to look baclc
to the 1997 season to flnd a
team with at least 300 pasalng
yards against HarboL Santa
Margarita's Canon Palmer, cur-
rently shredding Pac-10 second-
aries for use. threw for 354
yards in a regular-season win
over the Tun, then helped (with
279 yards) Santa Marprlta
throw for 319 yards In a CIF Di-
vision VI semifinal victory later
the same season.
Freeman's desire to diminish
Cianclulli's workload -he is
averaging 25 carries per game
-could be realized with the
expected return to the baclc:6eld
this week by Injured senior
Keith Long.
Long. who could join the tail-
baclc rotation that now also in-
cludes sophomore Wess Pres-
son ('46 yards on nine carries
against Laguna), could be
cleared to play after straining
his back in the Cypress loss.
The news is not all good on
the injury front, however, as
junior defensive tackle Dave Si-
mon, who had injected some
much-needed interior quick-
ness, broke his thumb against
Laguna Beach and may be side-
lined for the season.
"He's trying to get a second
opinion," Freeman said.
"We've never had one guy go
out there and control the of-
fense lllce that against us,• Brin-
lcley said of Vinson. "Any time
we've come up against a team
that is one-dimensional, we've
always done a good job (defen-
sively)."
MUSTANGS
Continued from fJ2>
ting off the ground and coming
at us. You lcnow he's playing hurt,
but it doesn't seem to matter.. He
just kept on throwing the ball,
running the ball and making
tackles on defense. He's just a
special lcid. •
Perldns had special praise for
his defense, which limited Estan-
cia to rninus-47 yards on the
ground and a mere 43 yards total
offense.
Freeman also said his team's
quick start Friday helped influ-
ence Laguna Beach to throw
more, which helped limit sen ior
tailback Oonnelle Darling's ef-
fectiveness. Corona del Mar's Brian Dunn (52) closes in on Laguna Beach quarterback Alex Wilson for one of his two sacks against the Breakers.
"One of the things we were
concerned with was the big bod-
ies &tanda had on its offensive
line," Perldns said. ·aut I thought
we were able to dominate. We
did a real good job of rushing the
passer (six saclcs for 60 yards of
losses), which was our Achilles
heel last season.·
