was played to jurors, who
watched it in its entirety and in

The defense maintained that

to the Haidls' home in Spyglass
HID with the intention of having
sex with the boys. Jane Doe.
who took the It.and for the
prosecution, testified that she

fore the inddent with two of the
defendants. Attorneys. bowevet,
said she had sex with all three
boys the night of July 4.
On Monday, families of the
defendants reacted with raw

cers shooting a Santa Ana
man multiple limes.
Irvine police officers shot
21-year-old Bernardo Ibarra
after he led them on a 30-
minute chase that ended In
Corona del Mar, lIVlne Police
Lt. Jeff love said. Three offi-
cers shot at Ibarra after he al-
legedly tried to run them
down.
"He attempted to use the
vehicle as a weapon against
the officers.· love said.

safety, they were forced to use

Students in the SUmmer Sci-
ence/Math Institute at Paula-
rino Elementary School learned all
about rocks and minerals last week.
The popular three·week camp,
sponsored by the Newport-Mesa
Unified School District, also teach·
es the third-through sl.xth-gradeni
about the solar system and matb-
emadcs.
First. the students learned about
different types of roe.ks and miner·
als, then they gathered samples
from the playground. They also ex·
amined specimens of feldspar,
quartt and obsidian -a favorite
for Its smooth. black appearance -
and recorded their findings in their
aclentl.6c notebooks.
