a modest exhjbit of sheep

A few people showed up the
first year, a few more the second
year, and everyone had a fine

resented being put on display

someone reminded them that's
what they were, after which they
were OK with It.

SENTENCE
Continued from A 1
Family and friends now hope
t.hat the tragedy Lhat befell
them does not destroy olher
lives while · Lhey try to piece
their own back together.
"He'll get neither mercy nor
forgiveness from me," Jamey's
brother, Jeff Trotter. said Satur·
day .. "I'm a Ouistian, but I'm
not Quist."
Trotter, who spoke in courc
on Friday, said making state-
ments in front or the judge
gave him the opportunity to
·vent and release a great d t!al
of peQH~p anger."
Trotter implored·· Crummer
lo tell the pare nts of other chil-
dren he might have murdered
about where he left or buried
their remains so that lhuse
parents could havt: some clo-
sure, he said.
Trotter said his younger
brotht:r's death left a void in
his life that has never been
filled.
"It doesn"t matter what pie·
ture you look at or what
memory you pick up, there's
someone missing there a nd
that'll never change," Jle said.
"At this point, the healing will
probably start, but our wounds
will never close.''
Crummel's defense has ar-
gued that the prosecution built
its case on conjecture about
Crummel's past, which in-
cludes a history of pedophilia.
Public Defender May Ann
Galante, who could not he
reached for comment Satur-
day. had said that her client
"had expected 1he worst"' and
tha t the case would automati-
cally be appealed. She also
said that it \W>ulW be several
years before Crumrne l would
be put to death.
Crummel was already serv·
ing a life sentence for molest·
ing a boy in his Newport Crest
condominium. I le was ar-
rested in 1997, and was a part
of one of Newport Bea<.:h"s fir~I
high-profile Megan·s Law
cases. Many neighbors pro·
tes ted day and night outside
his home in a n effort 10 evict
him from the neighhor-
hood.Officials said in 1997 it
was Crummel himself who led
police to Jamey's charred re-
mains. Jamey's death has made
his family come closer and be-
come stronger, Trotter said.
"Hut Jamey shouldn't have
been the cause of it," he said.
"He sho uld ·ve heen a part of
it. ..

HUNTINGTON BfACH -Coaches
of the Costa Mesa American Little

pitchers so much through the first
four games of the District 62 touma·

That confidence has seemingly
seeped throughout the entire dugout
as Costa Mesa i.s just one win away
