A new website will make it
easier for job seekers to find
jobs within the state's hJgher
education system.
The Southern California
Higher Education RecruJtment
Consortium is sponsoring the
first higher education employ-
ment website in the region. It
gives people access to informa-
tion about faculty and staff po-
sition at 23 public and private
colleges and universities in
Southern California.
About 1.500 jobs are listed on
the site, according to UCI offi-
ciaJs. Colleges and universitiC$
in Southern California expect to
hire more than 50,000 new em-
ployees in the next five year<;,

Fundraiser to raise
scholarship money
A benefit will be held at 7
p.m. on Oct. 22 for the Brandon
Cody Wiener Scholarship Fund
at the Costa Mesa Senior Cen-
ter. The scholarship fund was
established in memory of Bran·
don Wiener, who was 3 year:.
old when he was killed by Ste
ven Abrams. Abrams drove his
car through a Costa Mesa pre·
school playground on May 3,
1999. Four-year-old Sierra Soto
also died in that incident.
Money raised from the event
wilJ go toward sending children
who have suffered the loss or a
loved one to camp. There will
be a dinner and silent auction.

half to make it a one-touchdown game.

Globally, Toyota has sold more than a
quarter-million hybrid vehicles since the
introduction of the first generation Prius
sedan, the world's first mass-produced hybrid
vehicle, in December 1997. In addition to
Prius, Toyota has bullJ hybrid vans, box
trucks, small buses ancj luxury sedans for sale
in the Japan domestic maitet Toyota will
bring two more hybrid vehicles to the U.S.
m.arbt early next year, with the arrtval of the
Lexus RX 400h and Toyota Highlander hybrid
sport utility vehicles.
The increase in allocation is part of Toyota
Motor Corporation's CTMO recent
announcement that it would boost monthly
production of the Prtus from approximately
10,000 units per month to 15,000, in order to
meet global demand. 1be 8ddld0nal 5,000 unit.a wtll be built
on an existing assembly line at an aistlng production fadlity
in Japan . The specific location of the plant will be announced
at a later date. Production will begin in early zoos.
The increased allocation marks the seco~ction
increase for the second-generation Prlua since it launched in
October 2003 in the U.S. The ortglnal Priua production plan for
the 2004 model was 36,000 unit.a annually. With 12,000
pre-orders received before the vehicle launched In
mid-October 2003 and approximately 10,000 units deltwred in
Its first six weeks on aale, Prtus production waa lncreued in
December 2003 to 47,000 units annually. With demand
continuing to escalate, lt became necessary to boost
production once again. Prius (the name comet from the Latin
•to go before") is the first hybrid vehicle in the U.S. to provide
the room, comfort and features of a mid-size sedan. Priua ii
also the first Toyota. product to employ Toymis Hybrid Synergy
Drive, gas-electric hybrid powertrain technology. The new
1y5tem produces more power from both the guollne englne
and the electric motor, glving the Prtua acceleradon
comparable to the Camry mid-lfu sedan. It~ an
estimated BPA rating of 60 MPG In dty driving and 51 MPG on
the hlshway, with a combined EPA mileage estimate of 55
MPG. And Priua never needs to be plugged in for recharging.
In addition to ita best-in-claa fuel economy, the new Priut
producea nearly 90 percent fewer amog-forming emJuiON
than a conventiontll internal combUltion engine, vehk:le. Prtu.t
