The contracted work has now been completed to the satisfaction of the Public Works
Department. A summary of the construction cost is as follows:
Original bid amount:
$770,400.00
Actual Cost of Bid Items Constructed:
$761,073.38
Total Change Orders:
$31,418.50
Final Contract Cost:
$792,491.88
The final contract cost was $792,491.88, which was approximately 2.9 percent higher
than the original bid amount. This cost increase was primarily due to staff directed
changes for additional signage and striping improvements in the Newport Hills
community. The decrease in bid items was due to a 15 percent decrease in the quantity
of edge grinding required.
This project includes a change order of $31,418.50, which was approximately 4.1 percent
of the original bid amount. The change order included additional excavation and
surveying services needed at the City's utility yard concrete tipping pad location,
relocation of backflow preventers out of the path of travel along new sidewalk path leading
to Andersen Elementary School, and additional requested corner access ramps near
Newport Harbor High School.
The City added 23 working days to the Contract for work on Jamboree Road and Ford
Road. Additional time was required to revise plans, review traffic control plans and
coordinate with contractor's schedule.
A summary of the project schedule milestones is as follows:
Estimated Start of Construction per Annual Baseline Schedule
5/14/18
Actual Start of Construction Per Notice to Proceed
6/4/18
Extended Contract Completion Date Inclusive of Extra Work
9/23/18

This project successfully completed edge grinding, crack sealing, applying slurry seal to
roads in the Newport Hills and Spyglass communities in order to maintain and improve
pedestrian access and proper street drainage throughout the communities.
