The Board of trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in adjourned s
session 2.30'P.M.date and place above shown.
The meeting was called to order by President Hermes and roll -call
showed there were present trustees; Albert Hermes; W.K.Pax•kinson,
R.J.Stauss; C.H.Way. Absent trustee; S.L.Collins.
It appearing that the first Monday after the 7th day of Oetober,1913,
the date on which the special election was held in and for the City
of Newport Beach, for the purposeof submitting to the qualified voters
thereof the question of voting the bonds of said city in the sum of
4 25000.00, was a holiday, to -wit: the Monday following -unday the 12th,
of October1913,which is by law "Discovery Day ", the Board og Trustees
deemed it best to canvassthe votes at said election, on both Monday the
13th of October and Tuesday the 14th of October: and theBoard being in
session as per adjournment and all the returns of said special election
having been made and in the hands of the Clerk of this Board, upon
motion of trustee %f Parkinson, seconded by `rustee C.H.Way and duly
carriedthe returns o said special electionwere again opened and canvas -
ed by the Board of Trustees. The returns being opened and canvassed,
from such Rz1xxRx canvass the Board of Trustees find and order establis-
hed of record that at the special election held on October 7th, 1913,
the total number of votes vast was 143; the total number of votes in
favor of said proposition was Bonds yes 138; that the total number of
votes cast against the proposition Bonds No was 5.
And it appearing that said special election was fairly and lawfully
conducted and carried on and that more than two - thirds of the votes cast
at said special election were cast in favor of said issuence of said
bonds, the Board of Trustees ordered to be established of record that
the proposition of the issuance of the bonds of the City of Newport -
Beach in the sum of $ 25000.00 for the completion of the municipal water
works of said city was carried.
Ordinance number 91. which was read for the first time October 13th,
was again read .It being an ordinance of the City of Newport Beach
providing for the issuance and sale of the bonds of said city in the
sum of $ 25000.00 for the completion of the municipal water works thereof
prescribing the the form of said bonds, fixing the rate of interestto
be paid thereon, the place and date for the payment of such bonds and
interest, and further providing a sinking fund for the payment and
redemption of said bonds, principal and interest.
Moved by trus ee C.H.Way seconded by trustee R.J.Stauss and carried
that Ordinance no 91 be passed to third reading.
There was then read for the first time Ordinance number 92, being an
ordinance of the City of Newport Beach providing 1XR for the appointment
of a subordinate officer of said City, establishing his qualifications
defiming his duties and providing for the payment of compensation there-
for.
Moved by trustee R.J.Stauss seconded by trustee 9.K.Parkinson and duly
carried that ordinance no 92 be passed to second reading.
Moved by trustee 'N.K.Parkinson seconded by trustee C.H.Way that
adjournment be taken to 2.30 P.M. Monday October 20th,1913. Carried.
