City Hall, Newport Beach, California. March 2nd, 1914.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regul-
ar session 2:30 P.111. date and place above shown.
President Hermes called the meeting to order; and the roll was
called showing thare were present trustees Albert Hermes,'?.K.
Parkinson,R.J.Stauss, CH.'7ay and S.L.Collins.
Minutes of the meeting of Feby,2nd, 9th, and 24th, were read and
approved.
Reports of the various heads of departments, for the month of Feby,
were read and on motion of Trystee '?.K.Parkinson, seconded by C.H.
°lay and carried,were accepted and filed.
Various communications were read and referred to proper order of
business.
The Fire and 7ater committie reported progress on the new fire room.
Unfinished business:- Ordinance X93 providing for the turning of
public utilities over to the State Railway Commission, read
iv ooved by u.H.7ay seconded by '7.K.Parkinson that Ordinance #93 be
put on final passage,. poll was called showing the vote as follows,
Ayes: - Albert aermes, S.L.,,ollins, :.. arkinson, R.J.6tauss And
,,.H.'7ay, woes: None- Absent, none.
Ordinance #95 bainv an Ordinance ordering the submission of certain
propositions to the qualified electors of the city of Ne—rort3each,
at the regular municipal election to be held in said city of Newport
ueach on Monday, the 13th, day of April,1914. for the purpose of
determining the question whether the city of Newport Beach shall
retain its powers of control respecting certain classes of public
utilitied, or surrender them to the ..ailroad Commission of the
.,tate of California.

Trust-ea R.J.Sta.uss that it be passed to the second reading, carried.
Grdinnnee #94 being an Ordinance of the city of Newport Beach pro-
viding for the holding of a general municipal election in the said
city on the 13th, day of April, 1914, establishing a voting precinct
and desiginating a polling place, appointing a Board of Election
and fixing their compensation; designating the officers of said city
to be elected thereat and submitting certaih questions or proposit-
ions to the electors of the city of Newport Beach, and directing
notice to be given of said general municipal election.
Read for the secon& time, on motion of Trustee -.I.K.Parkinson seconded
by Trustee U.H..7ay that it be put on final passage, Holl was called
showing the vote as follows, Ayes: A.H•Hermes, S :E:uollins, -.7•K: Parl:
inson, R•J.Stauss and u.H.T,7ay. Noes: ..one- :absent None.
Moved by Trustee .'I.n.Parkinson seconded by C.H.'?ay that the officers
serving on the election Board, of the munici al election to be held
April 13th, 1914. receive a compensation of 4.00 per day each.
Resolution of intention ordering work done.on side walk about the
Pool between Stith, and 38th, street, was read for the first time,
and on motion of Trustee " ?.K.Parkinson seconded by �'rustree C.H.7ay
was passed to the second reading.
Action;om the proposed ordinance for the renaming of streets was
laid over to the next meeting, Moved by Trustee 7.K.Parkinson
seconded by Trustee C:,H."lay and carried.
A letter from fair, Lugbee was read refusing to give the city the
triangular piece in front of block W-9 l.eld over.

MovPa b', Trustee C.H.7ay, seconded by Trustee 7.K.Parkinson that
the city Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications
for a street lighting system and carried.
moved by Trustee 7.x.Parkinson, seconded by Trustee C.H.7ay that the
City attorney be instructed to draft a set of resolutions of cond-
olence and respect on the death of our City Recorder Mr, Charles H.
. lace, and carried.
Mrs, King called the attention of the Board to the Lake Street side
walk, asking if it was the intention of the Board to take any further
action in the matter.
Moved by Trustee 77.K.Parkinson, seconded by Trustee C.H.13ay that the
bind of the :.ewbery Bendheim Electric moo, on the instalation of a
street lighting system, be rejected, and the clerk be instructed to
return their check, and carried.
...oved by Trustee ',7.K.Parkinson, seconded by Trustee S.L.Collins
that the fire building on 22nd, street, be moved on to the :'ater
oup'ts lot, on Newport Ave. and carried.
mr, Uoodcell was asked to change his plans on the public toilet for
22nd, street, and the City Engineer, was instructed to show how
much filling would be required.
Moved by Trustee S.L.Collins, seconded by Trustee R.J.Stauss that
the marshal be instructed to have a sign painted and placed on the
City Hall, calling attention to the fact that this building is the
"City Hall" and carried.
I�Aoved by Trustee C.H.77ay, seconded by Trustee S.L.Collins, that the
contract of the Pacific Tank & Pipe Co, for the 12" -inch wood pipe
and fittings be signed, and carried.
Moved by Trustee, S.L.Collins seconded by Trustee R.J.Stauss that
the application of Lew H.a lace for the position of City Recoraa„�

Moved by Trustee :7.K.Par inson seconded by Trustee, C.H. "Jay that
the recomendation of fire chief R.Shafer that two poles should be
erected one at each of the present fire houses, be accepted and
the fire chief be instructed to arrange for same.
Moved by Trustee, C•H.7ay, seconded by Trustee, R.J.Stauss, that
the application of U.L.Robinson to have his milk license transferred
be granted, and carried.

and _ac Electric railroad companies, dirt surface their crossings
at 36th, streetland place side walk on same, was referred to khe
Street Sup't, to interview the comanies in regard to same.

the application k the Pacific Light & Power to furnish lights for
the city hall be signed, and carried.
