City Hall Tler:port Beach,Cal Lay 25th,1914.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
adjourned session 2.30 P.M.time and place above named.
President Parkinson called the meeting to order and the roll was called
showing there were prosent trustees 'a.K.Parkinson;S.R.Jumper;H.A.
Robimson;C.H.'."ay and G.P.Wllson.None absent.
The minutes of the meeting of May 16th,1914.were read and approved.
Various communicationp were road and referred to proper order of business.
Unfinished business: -In the matter of telephones to be furnished the
City with out cost it was decided to have them located as follows;one
at the water works;one at the house of the City Ilarshal and one in the
City Hall.At the latter place an extension phone on the Marshals desk
to be arranged for under regular schedule.The Glerk was instructed to
so inform the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co;and on motion of trustee
S.R.Jumper,secornded by trustee II.A.Robinson and carried the President of
the Board was authorized to sign the contracts for the telephones
specified,attested by the Clerk.
The application of Geirge Lucas to operate a "dice - paddle "game was
granted on motion of trustee C.H.'.'ay,seccnd , d by trustee H...Robinson
and carried.
The application of the Jackson - Norton Co to build a pavilion on their
wharf at Balboa,accompanied by required plans,and which was presented at
a previous meeting,having laid over the required time was granted on
motion of trustee S.R.Jumper,secanded by trustee C.H.Y9ay and carried.
The matter of entering into a contract for the installation of the street
lighting system was considered -and it was moved by trustee G.P.Wilson,
seconded by trustee H.A.Robinson and carried,that the bid of the F.O.
Engstrom Company be accepted,subject to the sale of the lighting bonds.
Bond of the F.O.Engstrom Company in the sum of 4;7500.00 was presented
and being approved as to form,it was moved by trusteeH.A.Robinson,secorlde'd
by trustee S.R.Jumper and carried that said bond be approved,accepted and
filed.
A contract between the City and the F.O.Engstrom Co covering the work
of installing a street lighting,was considered;and on motion of trustee
S.R.Jumper,seconded by trustee C.H.7ay and curried;the President of the
Board was instructed and authorized to sign same,attested by the Clerk,
on advise that the bonds are sold.
New Business:- Invitation from the Poly -Nigh school Board of Venice to
attend exercises of corner stone laying of new building,was filed.
Letter from the Pacific Hardware and Steel Cc asking return of check was
referred to .Water -supt McMillam for information as to satisfactory
cogpletion of contract of furnishing of pipe,check to be returned to said
firm on favorable report of ' }rater Supt.
Demand #793 for fifty dollars was presented by City Attorney Bishop in
favor of O'llelveney,Stevens and Millixen for services of examining the
abstract of bond issue and passing on the same.Moved by trustee H.A.
Robinson,seconded by trustee C.H.•,7ay and carried that demand be allowed
and warrant ordered drawn.

operate a merry go -round and various other amusement devices,on Ocean
Avenue in block f23,was referred to the Miarshal for report.
Er Brann,former proprietor of the "Hermaid Cafe" requested the transfer
of the restaurant license issued to him,to L.Ludrri6;and request was
ed and transfer ordered on motion of trusteeS.R.Jurnper seconded by trust.
C.H.:ay;and carried.
Protests against the improvement of several of the streets named in
resolution of intention {638 were read,and considered resultimg in a
motion by trustee S.R.Jumper,seconded by trustee C.H.';ay and carried,
that the City ..tt;. °ney be instructed to draft resolution of intention
under the 1913 act establishing grades and ordering the impruvoments
contemplated on the streets protested,and that City Engineer furnish
plans and specifications and estimate of cost of said improvements.
