City Hall, Newport Beach, -Cal. I,Iay 8th, 1916.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach, niet in adjourned
session 7:30 P.M. date and place above shown.
President Jumper called the meeting to order and the roll was called
showing there were present Trustees; S.R.Jumper, Glenn Helms, G.P.
t. °ilson, H.A.Robinson, and J.C.I%,IcCain, Absent none.
The minutes of the meetings of May lst and Ilay 3d, were read and
approved, after a correction having been made as sequested by the
'
city attorney.
Various communications were read and referred to proper order of
business.
UNFINISHED "BUSINESS;
Resolution No.52 being a resolution concerning
the calling and holding of a special election in the city of Iievmort
Beach and also in certain new territory which it is proposed to
annexed to, incorporate and include in and make a part of the city
of Nev.-rort ?each for the nurpose of submitting to the qualified
electors of the city of Newport Beach and also to the qualified
electors residing in the territory proposed to be annexed certain
questions or propositions relating to such proposed annexation, w.:s
presented, read for the first time and considered, voting precincts
and polling places were established and designated, and officers of
election selected and the said resolution was then referred to the
city attorney to be put in proper form for final adoption and passage
by the Board of Trustees.
The Bond of Frank J.Irnight in the sum of :500.00 with the ?.merican
surety company as surety was nre.;onted, Attorney Bishop stated that
the same was in due form.
I.Ioved bar trustee, G.P..�ilson seconded by trustee, J. C. 1LcCain and
carried that the bond of F.J.Inight be approved, acd'epted and filed.
1loved by trustee, J.C.I.IcCain seconded by trustee, Glenn Helms and
carried that the matter of street improvements at East °?ew -.ort be
laid over one more week for further investignation.
Letter of apnlication of Cara -:.Hunt for a clerical position in_ the
city Hall, was ordered filed, on motion of trustee, G.P.';ilson
seconded by trustee, J.C.McCain and carried.
Letter from the Ebell Club of East Iewport was read, inviting the
the members of the City Council with their ladies and friends to
attend the housewarming of the club at it's club house, Friday evenii
I,Iay the 12th.
I,ioved by trustee, H.A.Robinson, seconded by truutee, G.P.1 ,7ilson and
carried, that the Clerk be instructed to write the Ebell Club a
letter of acceptance, with th.nks.
Letter from Mater Supt John I.Ic I.Iillan was read in which he stated
that on account of the extra field work on hand A the present time
he was unable to attend to the office work also and asking that the
Board take some action tword allor,ing him office assistance, the
same was referred to a committee of the whole, for attention.

The Treasurer presented three demands covering• f-rei_�ht on Gas pine,
paint for the same and supplies for the street department, amounting
to `622.41.
I.-Loved by trustee, H.'.Robinson seconded by trustee; G.P.',ilson and
carried that the demands be allowed, approved by the finance committ-
ee and warrants dra.,n to cover.
President, Jumper then appointed trustees, J.C.I.IcCain and H.A.Robinsc
as a standing Gas Committee.
