City Hall, Newport Beach, Calif., June 9, 1917.
The Board of Trusteessof the City of Newport Beach,Calif. met
in adjourned session at the place and on the date above mentioned.
There were also present members of the Harbor Commission as follows:
Iviessrs I.Polhamus, Y.L.Jordan and John McMillan.
Roll Call.
' On calling the roll the following Trustees responded "Present ":
H.A'.Robinson, J.J.Schnitker, Geo.P.Y]ilson, J.C.I;IcCain and J.P.Greele .
Absent, none.
Consideration of bids for the construction of the Jetty.
Letter from D.t7.Pontius,Traffic Manager of the Pacific Electri
Railway Company,was read stating that they,in connection with the
Southern Pacific Company, would grant a freight rate of-65d per ton
from Declez to Balboa,with a minimum of 60,000 tons,on riprap for
the jett * -.
On motion of Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee Geo.P. -7ils
and duly carried, it was ordered that the needed portion of the bond
heretofore voted for the construction of the jetty be made available
for that purpose.
On calling the roll the following Trustees responded "Aye ": H.A.
Robinson, J.J.Schnitker, Geo.P.::Iilson, J.C.McCain and J.P.Greeley.
Noes,none. Absent, none.
On motion of Trustee J.P.Greeley,seeonded by Trustee Geo.P. "lils
and duly carried,it was ordered that the City of Nevm ort Beach assum
and pay for all rock shipped and used in the construction of the jet
over the lines of the Pacific Electric Company and the Southern
Pacific Company,in consideration that the successful bidder for the
' contract to construct said jetty reduce the amount of the bid at the
rate of 90¢ per ton for each ton shipped and used in the constructio
of said jetty.
On calling the roll the following Trustees responded "Aye ": H.A.
Robinson, J.J.Schnitker, Geo.P.Wilson, J.C.McCain and J.P.Greeley.
Noes, None. Absent, None.
Moved by Trustee• J.C.McCain,seconded by Trustee Greeley and
carried that all bids received for a contract for the construction
of a jetty in and for the City of Newport Beach other than the bid
of W.M.Ledbetter be rejected, and that the bid of said 7.M.Ledbetter
be and is hereby accepted, and that the City of Newport Beach enter
into a contract with "J.I:I.Ledbetter to construct said jetty strictly
in accordance with the plans and specifications heretofore prepared
and adopted therefore,for the following consideration: all rock in
place on the basis of the minimum of 40,000 tons to be paid for in
the sum of 01.46 per ton; all rock in place which shall be in excess
of the minimum of 40,000 tons to be paid for in the sum of 7q per t

Moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.l7ilson
and unanimously carried that a vote of thanks be tendered to Enginee,
' W.K.Barnard for his efficient service in securing reduction of freig)
rate on riprap from 90� to 65d per ton.
Moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee McCain and
carried that the Clerk be 'authorized 'to write to Idr.D.7.Pontius.
Traffic Manager of the Pacific Electric Railway, thanking him for
the reduction of 25V per ton of freight rate on rock for the jetty.
Adjournment.
Moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee J.P.Greeley
and carried that the Board adjourn to 7:30 p.m.,June 11,1917.
