The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City
of Newport Beach was called to order by President H.A.Robinson at 7:$0
p.m.on the date and at the place above mentioned
ROLY, CALL. On calling the roll the following Trustees responded "Present ":
H.A. Robinson, J. J. Schnitker ,Geo.P.rJilson,J.C.I.icCain and J.P.Greeley.
Absent none.
Iiinutes of June 25th were read and approved.

The usual order of business was dispensed with and the bids ford
well casing and well drilling were opened and read. There was one bid
for well drilling and six for casing.The same were referred to the
',later Committee and the ;later Superintendent for examination and
recommendation.

The City Attorney read a favorable report on the financial stan -
ing of 'JI.I.I.Ledbetter and sureties.

The 01-.y Clerk reported that tie Santa ^_na Register -greed to
run the New -oort Beach advertisement for five weeks at '% .per week,
giving the City the privilege of extension of five weeks.

The Clerk also re-orted that the Pacific Electric 'ompany had
requested an expression from the City as to the time desired by the
City for paying freight bills on rock for the Jetty. It was moved by
Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee : -cCain that the Clerk write
to D.`:J.Pontius,Traffic hlanager,that it would be agreeable to the Cit
to make payment of freight bills on rook for the Jetty on the wednes
day following the first L:onday of each month. I:Iotion carried.

The City Engineer reported on survey for o_aeninq u� a street
from the westerly city limits to 45th St.and presented ma-p showing
said survey. The same was referred to the Street Cor._;littee ,.the
Street Superintendent and the City Engineer for recommendation.

Two communications from 'I.D.Rodoers regarding Ferry Franchise
:;ere read to the Board,one stating the accepting of the provisions
of the ordinance Yo.132 granting said franchise,the other setting
forth his intention to transfer said franchise to I, I.J.A.Ionnette.

On motion of Trustee Ceo.P.Vlilson,seconded by Trustee J.C.I14cCain and
carried,the resignation was accepted and the office declared vacant.

carried that the monthly and yearly reports of the Heads of Depart-
ments be accdpteP_and placed on file.
The report of the Gas Manager regarding the two inch pipe of
the Southern :ounties vas Co, was referred to the Gas Committee and
the Gas i,anager.

carried that the Street Cormmittee and the Street Superintendent be
authorized to dram up contract with D.W.Tate
for the hauling of garbage.

that the dem na of Jackson-Norton Co.be referred back to them for
correction as to labor.

Levi H.',Jallace reported that the men who proposed the establish-
ing of a fish canning factory in Newport Beach did not think it ad-
visable to use the Southern Pacific Co.whar£ for unloading fish,and
also that it would be impossible to secure certain machinery for
several months which would afford the city ample time to provide a
channel in the bay.

that the Street Superintendent be authorized to place "Public Toilet'
signs on the comfort stations in I ?ewort and Balboa.

carried that the Street Committee and the City idarshal be a committe(
to ascertain the cost of life buoys and to make a recommendation.
