City Hall,Newport Beach,Calif.,7:30 P.IS.,Feb.25,1918.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach,Calif. met
at the place and on the date above mentioned.
On calling the roll,the following Trustees were found to be present:'
Trustees H.A. Robinson ,J.J.Schnitker,Geo.P.Wilson and J.P.Greeley.,
Absent , J. C .IvIcCain.
The reading of the minutes was dismensed with and the Board
proceeded to the regular order of business.
REPORTS OF COI ^.r'.ITT? ?�,S.
The City Attorney reported on 26th St.crossing,on abstract for
Jetty Bond sale forwarded to Sacramento,and on answer to the attorn
of the Pacific Electric Co. regarding the city's refusal to pay the
claim of $1. for street privilege.
The Dredging Committee submitted a written report as to the ti
of filled in lands,accompanying said report with written opinions
from Attorney General U.S.Webb,The California League of Municipali-
ties and from City Attorney Clyde Bishop.
By motion of Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson a
carried,he report was accepted and filed.
The written report of F.L.Rinehart,Gas Manager,regarding the
installation of gas or electric lights on Newport Heights was read
and referred to the Street Committee.
COIS:SUNICATIONS were read and referred to the proper order of business
ORDINANCE NO.138 providing for the change of names of streets,wss
placed on final passage by motion made by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson,seconi
ed by Trustee J.P.Greeley. On calling the roll the following Trustee;
Responded Aye: Trustees H.A. Robinson ,J.J.Schnitker,Geo.P.Wilson and
J.P.Greeley. Noes,None, Absent,Trustee J.C.McCain.
ORDINANCE NO.139 providing for the regulation of- trucks on sidewalks!
was introduced,and on motion of Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trusi
ee Geo.P.Tilson was passed to second reading.
DISPOSITION OF COLF.NNICATIONS.
In connection with the letter of Lew u.Wallace advising the Bo
of the offer of Ur.James Irvine to donate 12500.as a premium to be
used for selling the Channel Bonds in case there should be no bids
same,the Board directed that the offer of Mr.Irvine should be accep
and a vote of thanks tendered to Mr.Irvine.
The.letter of J.H.Strait of Redlands asking for information
Coast Road was referred to the City Engineer.
The request of the School Board for the dirt - filling of 13th 1 14th
Streets was referred to the Street Committee and St.Superintendent.
The petition for street lights submitted by residents and property
owners of Newport Heights,accompanied by letter from R.G.Roberts,was
referred to the Street Committee.
The matter of repairing of sidewalk between 19th and 9th Streets on
the Ocean Front was referred to the Street Committee & St.Supt.
The lease from the Southern Pacific Co.£or sidewalk under the wharf
was cancelled by motion of Trustee J.J.Sciuiitker,seconded by Trustee
J.P.Greeley and duly carried.
ORDINANCE N0.140,providing for an election,was Introduced and on
motion of Trustee J.J.Sclmitker,seconded by Trustee Geo.F.Wilson and
duly carried,was passed to second reading.
It was moved by Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.7ilson
and carried that the Clerk get the Council Room clock repaired.
CHAMBER OF COT ;g,ERCE GRANTED $500. By motion of Trustee Geo.P.Wilson,
seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,and carried,$500 was set aside for
music and promotion to be used by the Chamber of Commerce.
BY MOTION OF Trustee J.P.Greeley,seconded by Trustee Geo.P.Wilson a0
carried, it was declared to be the sense of the Board that

1st of March as inspector'at the Jetty in place of the present inspector,
the city to arrange for his compensation.
