City Hall,Newport Beach,May 27,1918,11 O'clock A.M.
A called meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of New-
port Beach,Calif.,was held at the place and at the time above noted.'
The roll was called and the following Trustees were found to be
present: J.P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker ,J.C.MeCain,L.S.Wilkinson and
Geo.P.Wilson.
In the absence of the C1erk,Trustee L.S.Wilkinson acted as
Secretary pro tem.
The Call was read and the Board proceeded to the consideration
of the matter embodied in the call,viz: dredging.
It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and seconded by Trustee
Geo.P.Wilson that the following,Resolution be adopted. On calling
the.,roll the Trustees responded as follows: Ayes,Trustees J.P.Greele
J. d. Schnitker ,Geo.P.Wilson,J.C.McCain and L.S.Wilkinson. Noes none,
Absent none. The text of the Resolution is as follows: -
WBEREAS,The United States Government is contemplating the
locating of a• shipbuilding plant somewhere on the South Coast
and
WH✓REAS,Newport Bay offers exceptional advantages as a lo-
cation for such a plant and
IMREAS,The City of Newport Beach has now in hand the sum
of $50,000.for dredging purposes and
• IMREAS,More money may be required to do necessary dredgir
to make sufficient water room for the launching of vessels to t
constructed in a U.S.Government shipbuilding plant;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,That this Board of Trustees
stands ready to at once take steps to call a bond election for
the voting of an additional $100,000.on assurance that such a
government shipbuilding plant will be located on °Newport Bay,
the amount of bonds voted to be expended in necessary dredging,
It was moved by Trustee J.C.McCain,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitke
and carried that the price of dredging to property owners be estab-
lished at 10¢ per yard for less than 5000 ,yards, 9¢ per yard for fr
5000 to 10,000 yards and 8¢ per yard for all over 10,000 yards.
It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee Geo
Wilson and carried that J.J.Schnitker and J.A.Armitage be a commit
to interview Capt:Leeds on securing dredger.
Adjournment sine die was taken by motion of Trustee J.J.Sehni
seconded by Trustee J.C.McCain an carried.
