City Hall,Newport Beach,Calif.,7:30 P.M.,July 1,1918.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met at the
place and time above noted.
The Roll was called and the following Trustees responded "Pres
J.P. Greeley ,J.J.Schnitker,J.C.MeCiLin and.L.S.Wilkinson.
Absent,Geo.�.Wilson.
The minutes of June 10th and June 14th were read and approved
read.
The monthly reports of Reads of Departments were read and by
motion of Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and
_duly carried,were,aecepted and ordered filed.
The fiscal reports of Heads of Departments were read,accepted,
and ordered filed by motion made by Trustee J.C.McCain,seconded by
Trustee L.S.Wilkinson and carried.
Trustee L.S.Wilkinson reported for the committee on appointment
of janitor and recommended the appointment of John Sharps. It was
moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee J.C.McCain and
carried that John Sharps be appointed as janitor and that his employ-
ment begin at once.
Trustee J.C.McCain reported on the Fred B.Sanders Claim that
investigation showed that the wire. for which he claimed payment did
not belong to him. it was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by
Trustee J.J.Schnitker and carried that the Clerk be -instructed to not:
Mr.Sander's attorney that the city had found from investigation that
it was not indebted to Mr.Sanders for materd.al as claimed.
Trustee J.C.McCain reported on the request of Nilson Bros.Co.for
gas filling station,and also on the matter of the gas filling station
now maintained by Way & Driggers.. Committee was continued one week.
The City Attorney reported on the foreclosure of the Everett
lease,the contract with the LaHabra Valley Land & Water Co.for the
purchase of land for sewage disposal plant,and the matter of the
opening of the crossing at,26th St.
It was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J:
Schnitker that the President and Clerk of the Board of Trustees be
authorized to execute the contract for the purchase of two acres for
sewage disposal plg.nt from the LaHabra Valley Land & Water Co,
The roll was called and the Trustees voted as follows: Ayes,Trustees
J.P. Greeley ,J.J.Schnitker,J.C.PdeCain and L.S.Wilkinson. Noes,none;
absent,Geo.P.Wilson. ,
In the matter of the opening of the railroad crossing at 26th St .
it-was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J.Sehnitk(
and carried that the communication from the State Railroad Commission
be referred to the Street Superintendent and Street Committee.
The request of J.A.Porter for leave of absence from July 8th.to
July 22 inclusive was granted by motion of Trustee J.C.McCain,seconde
by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson and carried.
The report of 17.W.Wilson on dredging was filed.
' In the matter of the paving of Central Ave.,the committee which
had been appointed to confer with the Pacific Electric Company with
rueference to their granting to the city a five foot strip,was contin-
jed with instructions to continue their conference with that end-in
vi ew .
In the matter of the request of Mrs.Dalzell for temporary sewer
connection for her summer school for children at Balboa,it was moved
by Trustee J.J.Sohnitker,seconded by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson and carrie

.The letter #rom the Trustees.of the Newport Beach School regard
campers in the vicinity of the school house was referred to Trustee
L.S.Wilkinson.
In the matter of the request of F.L.Reinhart,Gas Manager,that t
rate for new gas taps and re- connections be raised,it was moved by
Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.C.McCain and carried tha
the rate for new taps be $5.00 and for re- connections 92.50 -
Regarding the application of A.N.Smith for the position of Police ,
Officer,it was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.C..
McCain and carried that he be appointed for said position for the months
of July,August and September at a salary of $75. per month.
Referring to the letter of W.M.Ledbetter & Co. regarding the re-
moval of the false work over the jetty,it was moved by Trustee L.S.
Wtlkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker and carried that the
Street Committee confer with Mr.Ledbetter and report at next meeting.
The letter from the Pacific Electric Railway Company advising o:
the cancellation of the special rate of 65¢ per ton on rip rap from
Declez and Bly was filed.
On the recommendation of the Water Superintendent it was moved
Trustee J.C.McCain,seconded by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson and carried tha
the salary of the pumper be $90. per month.
Upon the recommendation of the Street Superintendent,it was mov
by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee "J.J.Schnitker and carri
that the salaries of the two teamsters be made`$85.per month.
Lew.H.Wallace made verbal report of his meeting with-the Board
Engineers for Rivers and Harbors,Washington,D.C. , I .
It was moved by Trustee L.S.Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee J.J.
Schnitker and carried that the demands approved by the finance com-
mittee be allowed and warrants ordered drawn to cover.
It was moved by Trustee T.C.McCain,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schn' ker
and carried that the applications for business and other licenses for
the ensuing fiscal year be granted on condition that sanitary conditions
be complied with.
The matter of the change of the License Ordinance was referred to '
the committee of the whole.
It was moved by Trustee J.C.MoCain,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker
and carried.that when adjournment should be taken it would be to 7:30
P.M.,July 22,1918.
Chairman J.P.Greeley declared the Board adjourned.

It was moved by Trustee J.J.Schnitker,seconded by Trustee J.C.
McCain that Resolution No.98 be adopted. The roll was called and the
Trustees voted as follows: Ayes: Trustees J.P.Greeley,J.J.Schnitker,
J.C.McCain and L.S.Wilkinson. Noes,none; absent,Geo.P.Wilson.

McCain that Resolution Ho.99 be adopted. The roll was called and the
Trustees voted as follows: Ayes, Trustees J.P.Greeley,J.J.Schnitker,
J.C..McCain and L.S.Wilkinson. Noes,None; absent,Geo.P.Wilson.
By motion of Trustee J.C.McCain,seconded by Trustee J.J.Schnitker

and carried,Lew H.Wallace was delegated to have bonds printed for the'
board walk on Surf Ave.
