City Hall, Newport Beach, May 18, 1920.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in
special session at 7:30 P. I.4. on above date.
The roll was called with the following members present:
Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, Art L. Heard, Conrad Richter,
L. S. lVilkinson. Absent, None.
The call was read and the Board proceeded to the business
embodied in the call as follows: The opening of bids for road oil,
and to conside the street lighting contract.
The City Clerk was instructed to open the bids for road oil
which were as follows:
A. F. Filmore Co. of Los Angeles, would furnish approxi-
mately 300 barrels of 75 % asphaltic road oil Q $2.50 per barrel,
f.o.b. Newport Beach. Price good to June 20th subject to any change
in freight rates occuring during that time.
Mercantile, Transfer & Storage Co. of Santa Ana Would
furnish 300 barrels fuel oil 14 plus 50 % gravity delivered in 150 barrel
lots via S. P. R. R. e $2.35 per barrel, j.o.b.,Newport Beach.
Standard Oil Co. of L. A. Would furnish two small tank
cars of L -5 �'ade Calol asphaltum, containing not less than 80
asphaltum ® X13.00 per net tom of 2000 lbs. f.o.b. E1 Segundo;
estimated rate of freight ;2.60 per net ton.
The Street Superintendent reported this would figure out about
$2.70 per barrel,(
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Art
L. Heard and carried, all bids were rejected but the bid of A. F.
Gilmore Company.
On motion of Trustee L. S. "Wilkinson seconded by Trustee J. J.
Schnitker and carried, the bid of A. F. Gilmore Co. was accepted,
and the Clerk instructed to order 150 barrels at once in a heated
condition; the balance to be ordered later.
The street lighting contract of the Southern California
Edison Co. was read by the Clerk, and on motion of Trustee L. S.
Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Art L. Heard and carried, the contract
was referred to the city attorney to pass on as to form, and to the
question raised whether we are as £Illy protected at the lighting Co.;
he to make his report at the next regular meeting.
On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Art
L. Heard and carried, the Clerk was instructed to write to the
Railroad Commission sending them a copy of the contract, and ask
them whether the rates named are equitable and just according to
their records.
On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Art
L. Heard and carried, the meeting adjourned.
