The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in
adjourned session at 8:00 o'clock P. M. on above date,
Chairman J. P. Greeley not being present on motion of Trustee
L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried,
Trustee Schnitker was elected to act as Chairman for the evening.
The roll was called as follows: Present Trustees J. J.
Schnitker, Geo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter, L: S. Wilkinson.
Absent, Trustee J. P. Greeley.
The reading of the minutes was dispensed with.
Mr. Thompson; Engineer for the Southern Counties Gas Co. was
present and brought up the matter of providing a way to get our water)
pipe and their gas line across the mouth of the Santa Ana River, and
he thought the cheapest and best way would be to use a cable line
suspended from piling driven in the ground about every 60 feet, and
wanted to know if the city would join them on a 50 -50 basis for the
construction and maintenance of same; this provided the Attorneys
decided that the Gas Company were to deliver the gas to the present
city limits, but if it is decided they are to deliver it to the point
where the city limits were at the time the contract with them was
entered into, then the City is to stand their proportion of the gas
line in addition to their half for the water pipe line. The cost of
same would be about $1200.00 on the 50 -50 basis.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo.
P. Wilson and carried, that the City enter into an agreement with thei
Southern Counties Gas Company on the terms suggested, and that the
President of the Board and City Clerk be authorized to sign the
agreement when it is drawn up by the City Attorney.
The City Clerk was instructed to take the necessary data
together with the action of the Board, to the City Attorney for his
guidance.
City Engineer Bressly referred to a conversation which he had
with Mr. Lee of the IvIdreereau Bridge & Construction Company, and he
was coming down on Tuesday to look over the ground with a view to-,
putting in a bid on the work of completing the jetty. He would
probably put in a bid by rail providing the City can arrange with Mr.
Ledbetter to use his track, and also for unloading from the Newport
Beach wharf on a acbw and taking it down that way.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo.
P. Wilson and carried, the meeting adjourned Sine Die.
