prescribed and providing a penelty for violations thereof.
The Ordinance was ordered filed, read, designated Ordinance Eo.
189 and referred to the City Attorney for consideration.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee J. J1
Schnitker and carried, demands No. 164 to 246 inclusive, leaving been
signed and approved by the Finance Committee, be allowed and warrant)
drawn for same.
As the vrork in the tax department was pretty heavy, on motion
of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and
carried. the assistant to the tax collector, J. S. 4elsh was allowed
5p100.00 per month beginning October 1st instead of the jy , 5.00 as
voted September 6, 1921.
City Engineer Kressly presented a map shoring the strip of
land to be condemned. on Central Avenue, and on motion of Trustee J
Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the map
was approved.
City Attorney Bishop asked permission to get the proper data
from the Orange County Title Co. to enable him to arrange the condem
nation proceedings on Central Avenue, and on motion of Trustee J. J.
Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, he was
authorized to get what information he desired at the City`s expense.
On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo.
P. Wilson and carried, the meeting adjourned to 7:30 o'clock P. :.

was called to order by Presider_t J. P. Greeley.
The roll was called as follows: Present, Trustees J. P.
Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. 'Wilson, Conrad. Richter, L. S.
lilkir_son. Absent Trustees none.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The communications were read and referred to the proper order,
of business.

ORDINANCE NO. 189,being an Ordinance entitled as follows:
"An Ordinance of the City of Newport Beach prohibiting
the manufacture, sale, storage or transportation of
intoxicating liquor in the City of Newport Beach, the
importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof out of
said City for beverage purposes except as in this Ordinance)
prescribed, and providing penalties for all violations thereof"
was taken up for final action, read and considered, the

A Map of Tract No. 1 93 of Fairview Farms coming within the
three mile limit of Newport Beach, having been approved by the City
Engineer, was presented to the Board for its approval, and on motion
of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee L. S. �Iilkinson and
carried, the map was approved.
' RESOLUTION NO. 148.
"A Resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Newport Beach ordering certain_ work to be done upon certain
portions of the alley situated between Alvarado Place and
Coronado Street and running parallel with said Streets within
said City."
On motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee L. S.
Wilkinson, the foregoing Resolution was adopted by the following
vote, to -wit:
Ayes, Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. Wilson,
Conrad Rioter, L. S. Wilkinson.
Noes, Trustees None.
Absent, Trustees None.
Chairman J. P. Greeley appointed :.rs. ?Millie :. Crosier as
a member of the Library Board for the coming year, and on motion of
Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and
carried, the appointment was approved by the Board.
NE':. BUSINESS.
C. II. Ehrhorn referred to some of the blocks at East Newport
where it was necessary to turn from one 10 foot alley into another
which is impossible, and suggested the City condemning the corners
of the lots to enable vehicles to make the turn.
The matter was discussed and on motion of Trustee L. S.
Wilkinson seconded by Trustee J. J. Schnitker and carried, the matter
was referred to the Street Committee and Street Superintendent to
investigate and report on at the next meeting.
No action was taken at this time on the communication fror^
the Peace Officers' Association in regard to putting: vagrants to vro
The matter of the sewer work not getting; along as rapidly as
it should Vlas discussed, and on motion of Trustee Conrad Richter
seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the Clerk was
instructed to write to Thos. Haverty Co. voicing* the disapproval of
the Board and asking them to hurry it up.
The communication from the American Legion in reference to th
parade and exercises on Armistice Day was discussed, and on motion o
Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by 'Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and
carried, the City Officials and Heads of Departments were to be
represented in the parade, and Trustee J. J. Schnitker was appointed
to look after the signs for the autos.
On motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee J. J.
Schnitker and carried, the request of F. L. Rinehart for 30 days
extension_ on his leave of absence from October 15th ,,,,as granted,
' without pay.
On motion. of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee J.?.
Schnitker and carried, the application of F. R. Richardson for a
permit to cross the sidewalk with a motor vehicle in front of Lot 63
Block A of East Newport was granted, the work to be done under the
supervision of the Street Superintendent as usual.
Chairman Greeley reported that he had a talk `frith Er. Deimling
and l::r. Champion of the Southern California Edison Co. in regard to
the substation, and they recommended a serial system of lights which
would be out of the question for us. He suggested a meeting of our
City Officials with the Edison Co. Officials to tal'_r the matter over.

the representatives of the Southern California Edison Co. to meet

The communication from 14iss Alice C. Plumer in regard to the
lights on Newport Heights was discussed, and on motion of Trustee J.
Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the Clerk
was instructed to answer the communication to the effect that vie vier
proceeding along the line of relieving the light situation on the
Heights.
On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee L.S.
'.;ilkinson and carried, the application of F. J. Knight for a two tireeu
vacation was granted.
The cormiur_ication from the hewport Beach Chamber of Commerce
in regard to instruction cards for handling garbage by residents,
was referred to the Street Superintendent.
The report and recor:menda.tion of the lister Committee and flat
Superintendent in regard to the Ford Runabout was read, and on moti
of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and
carried, the report was accepted and recommendation complied with f
the purchase of the Anaheirr car.
Owing to other duties prohibiting his serving longer on the
Board the resignation of Trustee L. S. Liilkinson was presented, and
it %,:as with deep regret that the Board felt called upon to accept sai: -ie.
On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo.:
P. I- ilson, the resignation was accepted with sorrow by a unanimous rising
vote. I
A map showing the site for the sewer septic tank for Balboa
Island :';as presented by City Engineer Kressly, and Treasurer Lew K.
'!allace was asked to take the matter up with Mr. Irvine when he ret
in December in the hope of getting a site without condemning it.
Trustee Conrad Richter brought up the matter of extending our
camp ground which eras discussed, and on motion of Trustee Conrad I
Richter seconded by Trustee J. J. Schnitker and carried, X2,000.00
was set aside for improving and enlarging the Camp Ground alonb the
lines laid down by the City Engineer some time ago, and to be under
the supervision of the Street Committee.
Treasurer Lew H. Wallace brought up the matter of obtaining
the dirt for the Carn Ground from Tustin which he understood could be
had for the freight charges.
On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geo.
P. Wilson and carried, the matter was referred- to the Street Superin-
tendent, and he vras authorized to obtain the dirt from Tustin if he
found on investigation it would be cheaper than hauling it frog• the
Heights.
On motion of Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee Geol.
P. '.dilson and carried, the meeting adjourned Sine Die.
