City Hall, Newport Beach, Jan. 2, 1922.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in
regular session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on above date. The meeting
was called to order by President Greeley.
The roll was called showing the full Board present.
The minutes of the previous meeting of Dec. 12, 1921 were
read and approved.
The reports from the heads of the various departments were
read and on motion of Trustee Schnitker seconded by Trustee Burke
and carried, the reports were accepted and ordered filed, the report
of City Marshal Porter in regard to the jail to be taken up at some
future time.
On motion of Trustee Wilson seconded by Trustee Schnitker and
carried, Mr. Porter was given a vote of thanks for the very compre-
hensive report presented by him.
REPIDRTS OF SPECIAL AND STANDING COP.I111ITTEES.
The Committee looking after the right -of -way across the
Pacific Ranch Co. property made a verbal report, and the Committee
was continued with authority to extend operations to the Banning
interests and have power to start condemnation suits if necessary to
get the right -of -way.
The report of the City Electrician and City Engineer on
changing the street lighting system to the serial system was read
and considered, and on motion of 'Trustee Schnitker seconded by
Trustee Richter and carried, the Street Department, Street Superin-
tendent with the City,* Engineer and City Attorney be authorized to
form an assessment district to change the street lighting system of
the City of Newport beach from multiple to the serial system.
The communications were read and referred to the proper
order of business.
N&I BUSINESS.
The Clerk and President of the Board of Trustees hereby fix
the rate of interest on the daily balance of the moneys of the City
of Newport Beach deposited in banks for 1922 at 2 per cent.
The commmnication from the Women's Civic League was filed.
Chairman Greeley appointed Trustees Richter and Burke as a
Park Committee to act with the Civic League Committee in looking
after the Park.
On motion of Trustee Schnitker seconded by Trustee Wilson
and carried, the application of G. W. Brownell for transfer 3f his
business license to G. M. Rice was granted.
On motion of Trust &e Schnitker seconded by Trustee Wilson
and carried, the request of Dr. T. J. Ruddy for a permit to repair
his pier was ordered returned by the Clerk for the proper plans and
specifications.
The communication_ from the City Clerk of East San Diego was
ordered filed.
On motion of Trustee Schnitker seconded by Trustee Wilson an
carried, the communication from the editor of the Newport Nevis askin
an appropriation of 060.00 a month for the year 1922 was referred to
the advertising committee of the two chambers of Commerce to devise
some means for making a live newspaper for Newport Beach.
It was moved by Trustee J. J. Schnitker seconded by Trustee
OY H; Burke and carried, that all judgments against violators
imposed by the City Recorder of the City of Newport'Beach, be
imprisoned in the county jail of the County of Orange.

On motion of Trustee Wilson seconded by Trustee Schnitker and,
carried, that demands No. 449 to 534 inclusive having been signed and
approved by the Finance Committee, be allowed and warrants drawn fort
same.
Trustee Richter brought up the matter of an assessment district
for dredging near the Yacht C1ub,,and City Attorney Bishop stated he
did not think we could make an additional assessment district in
Municipal Improvement District No. 1. The matter was discussed but
action was deferred until next meeting.
On motion of Trustee Schnitker seconded by Trustee Wilson and'
carried, the meeting adjourned to 7:30 P. M. on Monday, Jan. 9, 1922'

The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in
adjourned session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on above date. The meeting
was called to order by President Greeley.
The roll was called shovitng the full Board present.
The minutes of the previous meeting of January 2, 1922 were
read and approved.
The communications were read and referred to the proper
order of business.
On motion of Trustee Schnitker seconded by Trustee Wilson
and carried, the City Clerk was instructed to write to the East
Newport Town Co. and ask them for a quitclaim deed to a Lot 30 x 50
adjoining Lot 1, Block 3 of East Newport on the east, which was vac
for street purposes by Resolution No. 29.
On motion of Trustee Wilson seconded by Trustee Schnitker a
carried, the map of Tract No. 211 being a subdivision of the Nly 5
acres of the Swly 10 acres of the J. A. Day Tract, coming within the
three mile limit of Newport Beach, was approved.
On motion of Trustee Burke seconded by Trustee Schnitker an
carried, Fire Chief Jackson was authorized to purchase a new battery
for the fire truck and have the old one repaired.
On motion of Trustee Burke seconded by Trustee Wilson and
carried, the salary of the Fire Chief was raised from $15.00 to 4$25.
per month.
On motion of Trustee Wilson seconded by Trustee Richter and
carried, Trustee Burke was authorized to attend the meeting of the
Consulting Board of the State Water Resource Investigation to be hel
at Pasadena.on January 16th, with expenses paid by the City.
On motion of Trustee Schnitker seconded by Trustee Wilson
carried, the request of I. Jacobson to repair his pier was referred
to the City Engineer for his approval.
