The Board of Trustees of -the City of Newport Beach met in
regular adjourned session at 7:50 o'clock P. i'. on above date.
The meeting was called to order by President J. J. Schnitker.
The roll was called showing all the members present except
Trustee Geo. P. '.Wilson who came in later.
The minutes of the regular meeting_. of Julie 5th were read
and approved.
The communications were read and referred to the proper order
' of business.

The contracts with Prank H. Greene for building the gas ware-
house were presented by City Er_Sineer Kressly, and on motion of
Trustee L:-.S. Wilkinson seconded. by Trustee H. C. Sloan the contracts
were approved and the President and City Clerk were authorized to
sign the same by the following vote:
Byes, Trustees, J. J. Schnitker, H. C. Sloan,
Conrad Richter, L. S. FWilkinson.
Noes, Trustees None.
Absent, Trustees Geo..P. Wilson.

The time having; expired for presentation of protests against
opening_ alleys under Resolution No. 170, the City Clerk read the
protests received. He was thereupon instructed to notify each of
the protestants that the matter was set for hearin '- in the council
chamber of the City Hall in the City of Idelaport Beach, at 7:30
o- 'clock P. :_. of :.:onday, June 26, 1922.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee H. C.
Sloan the Iiewport Beach and the Balboa Chambers of Commerce were
each .,Mowed %250.00 out of the advertising and music fund for a
band for PourtZi of July by the following vote:
Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, TI. C. Sloan, Geo. P. Nilson,
Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson.

Absent, Trustees None.
On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee L.S.
Wilkinson and carried, the Chair was instructed to appoint a
corr:ii ttee to meet with the School Trustees at the earliest tine
possible with a vier; to pn- rchasinr the school property for mtuiicipal
' purposes.
The Chair referred the matter to a Committee of the '.;"hole
to meet next Thursday afternoon.
The request of the committee of arranGerdents of the Bathin
Girls parade was laid on the table.
The communication from James Sleeper in regard to a Deputy
Assessor, and the protest against paving Bay Avenue betueen i.:ain and
A Streets were laid over for future consideration.
i.;r. Jones of the Western ::'_achinery Co.. and iir. Adams of the
i. adsen Iron CWori >s spoke of the merits of the Gas c.nd the Diesel
Engines, but no action wc_s taken.

On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson
seconded by Trustee
Conrad Richter the foregoing Resolution was
adopted by the

A. V1. Jackson_ presented his resignation as Fire Chief and
Captain of the Life.Savin- Corps, and. on motion of Trustee L. S.
Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson .nd carried, the resigna-
tion was laid on the table until next meeting.
On motion of Trustee L. S. 1711kinson seconded by Trustee H. C,
Sloan and carried, the meeting adjourned to 7:50 o'clock P. on
I.;onday, June 19, 1922.

This bein,_; the time fixed by Resolution of Intention F.o. ISS
passed on the 29th day of May, 1922, for hearing; protests in the matter
of changing the ornamental lighting system, but no protests havin been
received and no one present desiring; to be heard in the matter of said
protests, whereupon Trustee Goo. P. 17ilson moved that Resolution No. 1.91
entitled,
"A Resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Iewnort Beach ordering the improvement of certain portions
of Central Avenue, and certain_ other streets and avenues,
under the Improvement Act of 1911,"
be adopted, which motion was seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson
and carried b0 the followinS vote:
Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, Geo. P. Nilson, Conrrd Richter,
L. S. Wilkinson.
Noes, Trusteos None.
Absent, Trustee H. C. Sloan.

On ::motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkirson seconded by Trustee Geo.
P. Nilson and carried, the City Attorney eras instructed to prepare
proceedir_gs for calling a bond election for the purchase of the present
Public School property and fi::inf; itui) for municipal purposes at a.
cost of 4,50,000.00.
On motion of Trustee Geo. P. Nilson seconded by Trustee Conr,-'d
Richter, the salary* of J. S. Welsh .:.as raised from 5 100.00 to 5 "150.00
per month for the sumiiler season, and the salary of the Health Officer
was raised from ;';515.00 to ;U .00 per month coiniiencinz July 1st, by
unanirious vote. of the siembors present.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Conrad
Richter, the salary of the Fire Chief was raised from ;,525.00 to 5;')75.00
per ::onth co=v encinr July 1st by unanimous vote of the members present.
