U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for dredging and maintaining to depths of minus 10 to 20 feet Unlike other ports and harbors acrossthe country, Newport Harbor does not require annual Corps maintenance - Partially dredged by Corps in 2012. Removed 550,000 cubic yards of navigation impeding shoals. City contributed over $4.5 million. 1.2 million cubicyards of material above original federally authorized design depths remains. Dredging is atop priority of the City with broad, regional support.
