The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in re3ular
adjourned session at 7 :30 o'clock p.m. on above date. The meeting was
called to order by President J. J. Schnitker.
The roll was called showing the full Board present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The communications were read and referred to the proper order
of business.
UIIFIFISHED BUSINESS.
This being the time fixed for opening bids for certain work on
certain portions of the promenade as contemplated by Resolution of
Intention No. 223 of this Board, the Board in open session publicly opened,
examined and declared all sealed bids received for said work, to -wit:

For Schlueter reinforced concrete sheet piling
:3ulkhead complete, per lineal foot, - - - - - - - - ;,34.00
For concrete sidewalk, per square foot, - - - - - - .26
The bid was discussed and on motion of Trustee Geo. P. Plilson
seconded by Trustee H. C. Sloan and carried, the bid was referred to the
City Engineer for further consideration for two weeks.
i.-r. Levi H. Wallace brought up the ;natter of some bills before
the Senate which were not apt to pass unless some pressure were brought to
bear upon the Senators, and on motion of Trustee H. C. Sloan seconded by
Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, the matter was placed in the hands
of the City Attorney and if he found it necessary to go to Sacramento,
his expenses were to be paid out of the general fund of the City.
':r. Lew H. IIallace stated the Patterson Lumber Co. viere desirous
of starting a wholesale lumber yard here, but would have to unload the
larer vessels at the outside wharf. The matter 'was discussed and on
motion of Trustee F. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and
carried, the Clerk was instructed to write to Er. Russell C. Patterson
that the Board felt favorable to the proposition and ask him to come
before the Board at the next meeting and discuss the matter.
The matter of assessment district for paving 36th Street, 29th
Street, Coast Boulevard Place, etc. was left in the hands of the City
Engineer.
City Engineer Kressly asked to have a name for the highway*
extending from the Pacific Electric right -of -way to Ocean Avenue, and
between the Eastarly line of Coast Boulevard and the "'esterly line of
21st Street, and it was decided to call it a continuation of Coast
Boulevard.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Iilkinson seconded by Trustee E. C.
Sloan and carried, the anonymous communication in regard to a Soldier's
Hospital on the i.iesa was referred to the Orange County Harbor Chamber of
Commerce.
On motion of Trustee L. S. C'ilkinson seconded by Trustee H. C.
Sloan and carried, the application of Geo. II. Bayer for a permit and
license to operate a combined lunch can on the beach, was denied.
The request of the California 'Construction Company for an
extension of 60 days on their paving contract was discussed, and on :notion
of Trustee Geo. P. Vinson seconded by Trustee L. S. 1ilkinson and carried,
the extension was granted on their paying; the engineering services as per
their letter of even date.
The application of S. W. dolt to do the assessing was taken up
and other parties were suggested, and on motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson
seconded by Trusted. H. C. Sloan and carried, the matter vies referred to
a Committee ::ith power to act. The Committee appointo.d was Trustees
L. S. Wilkinson and II. C. Sloan.
The communication of Clarence G. ':;bite in regard to the Iarages
at East Wevrport was filed.
The protest of the Ebell Club against the erection of small
shacks in the City was taken up, and on motion of Trustee L. S. `':'ilkinson
seconded by Trustee H. C. Sloan and carried, the Clerk was instructed to
notify them of the inability of the Board to prevent it.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Clilkinson seconded by Trustee Conrad
Richter and carried, the communisation from the Newport Beach Chamber of
Commorce in regard to cleaning up the beach was referred to the Street
Committee and Street Superintendent for attention.

=he request of the Balboa Boat ':forks to put a roof over their
pier at Balboa, was discussed and 1.7illiam Cubbon explained it was to be
used for boat building. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded
by Trustee Geo, P. Wilson and carried, the request was granted..
The communication from the Street Superintendent explairin„
that the odor complained of at the last meetin did not coYae fro.: our
garbage dump as nothing was being burned there, was laid on the table,
The communication from the Water Superintendent enclosinL;
letter quoting price on pipe for bettering the water conditions over to
Balboa Island was discussed; and on motion of Trustee PI. C. Sloan seconded
by Trustee Conrad Richter and carried, the matter was placed in the hands
' of the :later Superintendent viitr nover to act.
A letter was read in regard to appointment of Deputy fdarshals,
and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo. P.
`7ilson and carried, the communication as read was referred to 'the Police
Committee and City Earshal to recommiend the necessary names as appointees
for deputies.
Trustee Conrad Richter stated the Boy Scouts would like to get
50 feet of surplus fire hose the City had, and (bn his notion seconded by
Trustse Geo. P. 7ilson and carried, it was ordered that 50 feet of tl.e
hose be turned over to them.
A L:ap of Tract No. 322, being a Resubdivision of Tract I'o. 278
of Newport Heights :;as laid over for further investigation.
On motion of Trustee H. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee Geo. P.
7ilson and carrier"., a i.:ap of Tract I:o. 470, being a Resubdivision o°
Blocks A, B, C, and K of Tract No. 323 Corona Del Liar Tract, was annroved.
On motion of Trustee Geo. P. 1.7ilson seconded by Trustee Conrad
Richter and carried, a ::ap of Tract ,'o. 428, bein a Resubdivision of
Lot 19 and the ':Nesterly 32 feet of Lot.18, Block I. of Tract :;o. 18 of
Fairviev: Tract, was approved.
On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee Geo, P.
`.7ilson and carried, demands No. 1581 and 1582 having been signed and
an-prover. by the Finance Committee, ^;ere alloyed and ctarrants to be dra-: 1
for same.
On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee
Wilkinson and carried, the meeting adjourned Sine Die.

motion of Trustee S. ':Nilkinson seconded by Trustee K. C. Sloan and
carried, the reports were accepted and ordered filed; the matter of the

The matter of the signs at the harbor entrance boin�: too far

instructed to take the matter up with the Harbor Laster and have it
remedied,
Trustee Geo. P. '7ilson reported that the Crown S::a,,e Company
had made him an offer of 31,800.00 for a three year lease on part of tl.--
City's lot at Balboa for a depot, nhic:,•:ras discussed and on motion of
