City Hall Newport Beach, May 18,1925.
The Board.of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in
regualr session on the.above.date. The meeting was called to order by
Pres. Geo.P.Wilson, the roll was galled showing the full Board present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.. R
Reports of special and standing committees were read and referred
to the proper order.
' In the matter of the parking problem along the Oceari front
at Newport, the committee was continued for one week for further investigati
and report at the next meeting.
There having been.no bide received on the old Balboa Comfort
Stateion, the matter was laid on the table for further action.
Communications:
A communication was received.from the treet Supt. regarding
the oiling of Central Ave. from B.St, dorm, and on s motion of Trustee
Young, seconded by .Trustee Sloan, and carried, the Street Suptl was
authorized to carry out the improvement.
In the matter of barbecues being built along the beach, the
report of the Street Supt, was accepted and ordered filed. k
A communication was received from the Reliance Title Co.,
regarding a confused map on lot 128 Bik. A.o f East Newport, and on
motion oY Trustee S_oan, seconded by Trustee Wilkinson, and carried, the
President and Clerk were buthorized to sign a quit claim deed to a
portion of the property when &;deed fov. -the correct amount of the lot
was received from Mrs. Sara B.Smith, the present owner of the-property.
On motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young,
and carried, application of Chas.Irvine to operate a merry -go -round at
Balboa, was approved and the license ordered granted.
Application of Ben Cope to construct a pier on the following
Lot 8 Tr. 756 -Lot 6 Tr.756 and Lots 1 and 2 B1k.26 E.Side Add. to Balboa Tr.
were laid over for the usual two weeks.
Application df C. A.Price, to construct a bridge from Balboa
Island to Collins Isle was rejected and the Clerk was ordered to write
Pair. Price that permission would have to be obtained from the U.S.Government
and then the application should again be presented to the Board of Trustees
On motion of Trustee L.S.Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee
H.C.Sloan and carried, it was ordered that the city of New ,)ort Beach quit
claim unto the Irvine Co., a corporation all of the land described

in a deed executed August 22,1924 recorded in book 550 Pg.85 of Deeds,
Orange County records, excepting the land however, described in a
deed also executed the 22nd day of Aug. 1924, recorded in Book 548
pg.354 of Deeds Orange Co. records.
The rresident of the Board of Trustees and Clerk are author-
ized to sign Icounter sign i attest I and deliver said quit claim deed.
Trustee H.C.Sloan introduced an ordinance entitled as follows:
An ordinance of the city of Newport Beach establishing and difining ,
the municipal water system thereof, providing rules and regulations
for its operation, creating the office of Water Supterintendant
of the municipal water system, providing for the establishdient and
collection of charges for water, and providing penalties for all violations
of thib:ordinance.
The Ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered designated
Ordinance No. 277 and passed to the second reading.
Trustee Wilkinson moved the adoption of the following:
Resolution No.334:
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY (F NEWWPORT
BEACH RECINDING A CERTAIN RESOLUTION FOR VACATING dLOSING UP AND
ABANDONING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF ABOLONE AVE AND CERTAIN ALLEYS IN BLOCKS
7,8,and 9 CF SEC. 5 (' BALBQ` ISLAND, IN THE CITY CF NE111PORT BEACH,

vote.

Trustee Sloan moved the adoption of the following:

ALLEYS IN BLOCKS 8 and 9 AND A CERTAIN PORTION OF THE ALLEY IN BLOCK 7
SECTION 5 BALBO: ISLAND 1,11ITHIN SAID CITY.
.which motion was seconded by Trustee Wilkinson and carried
by the following vote.
Ayes: Trustees Geo.P.Wilson, H.C.Sloan, Fred tri1.Young, Conrad
Richter, and L.S.Wilkinson.
,Noes-:Trustees, None.
Absent: Trustees None,
Trustee Conrad Richter introduced an ordinance entitled as follows:
"An ordinate of the City of Newport Beach in aid of safety and
navigation, establishing the office of life- saving and pilot service
of.the city of Newport Beach, and providing for the appointment of a person
to.fill such office." The ordinance was ordered read considered, designated
Ordinance No.278 and passed to the second reading.
A request having been received from Mr. Tom Sharkey that the
city put a price on 12x12 timbers in the City yard.On motion of Trustee
Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Young, and carried Street Su8t. Ringhart
was authorized to sell Mr, Sharkey. 12x12 timbers from the ity Yard for
not less than one half the present market value of new 12x12 timbers. '
Street Supt. Rinehart stated that there was a great deal of
sand on the streets of the Blankenhorn Traet and that the tract owners
were willing to stand one half of the expense of moving the sand , if the
matter was taken care of.at once. He stated that the total cost of the
wont would be $275.00 according to Ernest Burris. On motion of Trustee
Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee # Richter, and carried, the Street Supt,
was authorized to employ Mr. Burris to do the work according to the terms
given in his statement to the Board.

A representative body of Newport Beach fishermen were present
and urged the Board of Trustees to take some action in the matter of
channel marks in the harbor, quoting one instance where a submerged buoy
had not been removed and was a menace to navigation. it was pointed out
by Trustee Richter, that Commissioner Rhodes was going to furnish the
Board with a plan for marking the channel, and that he would s ee the
deputy Harbor Master, and have him remove the submerged buoy at once.
F.D.Robertson and P.E.Paige and others urged the signing
of the Purse Sein Bill by the Government.
On motion of Trustee Wilkinson seconded icy Trustee Richter
and carried, the President was ordered to send a telegram to Governor
nichardson urging the signing of the Bill.
Some discussion arose over the opening of the alley in
back of the Briggs building at Balboa, Trustee Richter stated that he
did not believe tha'-.the opening of the alley was a safe measure, and
would endanger the lives of pedestrians. The matter haveing been discussed,
on motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Young, the Street
Supt# was ordered to open the alley at once. Thereupon the roll was
called and the motion passed by the following vote;

L.S.Wilkinson.
Noes: Tru stee Richter.
Absent:Trustees,None
There being no further business, on motion of Trustee
Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Young, and carried the meeting was adjourned
to May 252 1925 at 7:30 o'clock P.M.
