Daley for an extra man for four of five months at a salary of from 0150.00 to $175.00 per month, for a survey of the water system was discussed. There- upon, on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Wilkinson, and carried, the request was granted, and Mr. Daley was authorized to further investigate the matter of keeping a record of the survey. ' There being no further business, on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Wilkinson, and carried, the meeting was adjourned to 7:30 o'clock P.M. The meeting was called to order by President Geo. P. 'lilson. The roll was called showing the full Board present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. City Attorney Bishop reported progress on the Mandamus proceedings in relation to the Harbor Bond Election, and stated that he would report more fully in the near future. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. ORDINANCE NO. 285. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NFNPORT BEACH, AUTHORIZING THE GRANTING OF PERMITS FOR CARRYING,ON THE BUSINESS OF CANNING OR DRYING FISH, AND MAKING FERTILIZER OUT OF FISH '7ITHIN SAdID CITY, PRO- VIDING THE METHOD OF OBTAIEING SAID PERMITS, AND THE CONDITIC`NS UNDER WHICH THE BUSINESS 15AY BE CONDUCTED OR CARRIED ON, AND FURTHER PRO- , VIDING FOR THE I ➢TYEDIATE REVOCATION OF SUCH PERMITS UPON ANY VIOLA= TION THEREOF, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR CONDUCTING OR ATTEP'PTING TO CONDUCT ANY SUCH BUSINESS WITHOUT THE EXISTENCE OF A VALID UN- REVOKED FER &FIT., came on for final consideration, the roll was called and Ordinance No. 285 was passed by the following vote: AYES -- Trustees, Wilson, Sloan, Young, Richter,'Nilkinson. City Attorney Bishop read the redraft of the Estus Lease, whereupon the matter was referred to the proper order of business. In the matter of the 10 foot strip which the City offer- ed-to buy from B. K. Stone for taxes and assessments which Yr. Stone had paid on the strip, it was brought out that Yr. Stone had paid $200.00 for sewer and viater in connection with same, thereupon on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young, and c ^cried, it was ordered that the 6)20 ^.00 be paid to ➢ .-Ir. Stone in addition to the amount of assessments and taxes. NEW BUSINESS. In the matter of the Estus Lease, the lease having been read, was discussed and upon motion of Trustee `i!ilkinson, seconded by Trustee Richter, and carried, the President and Clerk were authorized to sign the lease in behalf of the City of Newport Beach. Trustee H. C. Sloan introduced an Ordinance entitled as follows: ORDINANCE N06 287. The Ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered, d(,signated Ordinance No. 287 and referred to the City Attorney. Trustee Sloan moved the adoption of the following: RT:SOLUTION NO.464. A RESOLUTION OF THE BOI:I,D OF TRUSTEE'S OF TH_; CITY OF NE "PORT BEACH DECLARING THEIR INTENTION TO V:.CATE, CLOSE -UP AID ?D 316 • C" C.., ABANDON FOR PUBLIC STREET PURPOSES CERTAIN PORTIONS OF OLIVE STREET„, SONORA STREET AND CERTAIN ALLEYS ' :IITHIN SAID CITY. The motion was seconded by Trustee Richter, and upon call of the roll was passed by the following vote: r ' AYES -- Trustees, L'Jilson,•Sloan, Young, Richter, Wilkinson, NOES -- Trustees, None. ABSENT -- Trustees, None. Upon motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Sloan, and carried, the Clerk was authorized to advertise for bids- for certain pump equipment said specifications to be furnished by City Engineer Paul Kressly, bids to be opened February 1, 1926 at 7:30 o'clock P. K. and the Board reserving the right to reject any or all--bids. City Engineer Kressly presented a request to the Board that a street be abandoned in mr. Robert M. Frick's subdivision, stating that the street had been dedicated to the City of Neiport but was still unopened, and that it was proposed that a 100 room hotel be built on the property adjacent thereto, at a cost of approx= imately $300,000.00. The Board of Trustees discussed the matter and on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young, and carried, I.-.r. Frick was told that the abandonment would be permitted with the understanding that if the hotel proposition did not go through that the street :would revert back to the City of Newport Beach. The 'later Superintendent, in a communication to the Board requested that the Board of Trustees take the necessary stops to have all sewer connections and permits for same handled by the sewer department. , On motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young, and carried, Mr. Daley was instructed to write a letter to City At- torney Bishop setting forth his contentions and explaining the matter more fully. The Clerk was ordered to send a copy of the present Ordinance regarding connections. A petition from Balboa Island Property owners for the repairs and construction of a bulk head to protect certain portions of Balboa Island, was referred to the City Engineer. Trustee Sloan brought to the attention of the Board a proposed i.,iprovement for certain streets at Corona Del I. ".ar, stating that as matters now stood, it was practically impossible to reach. certain portions of that part of the City. On motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young, and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to draw plans and specifications and submit an estimate of the cost of improving of streets northerly of Electric Drive, Corona Del I;iar, said improvement to be made under the Street Improvement Act of 1915. On motion of Trustee Young, seconded by Trustee Sloan,• and carried, the City Building Ordinance was;ordered amended in the . matter of the necessity for the building inspector to have five I years experience before being allowed to serve the City of Newport Beach. On motion of Trustee l,lilkinson, seconded by Trustee Richter, and carried, the demands as approved by the Finance Committee were allowed and the warrants ordered drawn.
