City Hall, City of Newport Beach, April 19, 1926
The Board of Trustees of the city of ?ewport Beach met in regular
session at the above date and place at 7 :30 1.11.
The board was called to order by the president George P. '.lilson, roll
called showing the full board present.
Finutes of previous meeting were read and approved as read.
A resolution No. 374 was presented by the city engineer as follows:
A resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach
declaring vacant for public str -et purposes certain portions of
Abalone Avenue and certain alleys in Blocks 8 and 9 and a certain
portion of the alley in Block 7, Section 5, Balboa Island, within
said city, together with a map of the resubdivision in question de-
signated as tract No. 742 which was carried by the following vote:
Ayes, Trustees 1'tilson, Young, Sloan, Richter and t;ilkinson.
Noes, Trustees, none
Absent, Trustees, none
Subject to the tax collectors approval and signature.
This being the first i,.:onday after the 12th day of April, 1926, on
which date there was held in the city of Newport Beach a general
municipal election, and the returns of said election having been
duly delivered to the Clerk, was by the order of the Board of Tr-
ustees opened and canvassed, and upon the return of said election
and the canvass thereof, the Board of Trustees find and order it
to be here established of record as follows:
The cit =r of Newport Beach, for the purpose of said election, con-
sisted of five election precincts, and the names of the persons
voted for and against and the proposition voted upon were as fol-
lows:

At the election the following proposition was voted for and against
as follows: "Shall the compensation for the members of the Board
of Trustees of the city of Newport Beach be increased from $25.00
per month to '50.00 per month ?"

per month to '50.00 per month ?"

The total number of votes cast in the city of Newport Beach at the
election was 928 votes.

Felix B. S.:odjeski and Harry Ii. 1.71lliamson each having received a
plurality* of all votes cast for the office of trustee of the city
of Newport Beach were declared elect ^d members of the Board of
Trustees of the city of Newport Beach for the term provided by law.
Alfred Smith having received a majority of all votes cast for the
office of Clerk of the city.of Newport Beach, was declared elected
to the of "ice of Clerk of the city of Newport Beach for the term
provided by law.
R..H. Summers having received a majority of all votes cast for the
office of Treasurer of the city of Newport Beach was declared elect-
ed to the office of Treasurer of the city of 7owport Beach for the
term provide by law.
The clerk was thereupon directed to make out and deliver to each of
the persons elected a certificate of election signed by him and duly
authenticated. lie shall also impose the constitutional oath of office
and have said persons subscribe thereto.
The proposition to increase the compensation of the members of the
Board of Trustees having received a majority of the votes cast it was
ordered that the compensation of the members of the Board of Trustees
of the city of Newport Beach shall be 8P50.00 per month, commencing
on the first day of zay, 1926.
This being the first ioonday after the 12th day of April, 1926, upon
•ihich date a special election was held in the city of Newport Beach
for the purpose of voting for and against two propositions as follows:
1st Shall the City of Newport Beach incur
a bonded debt for the acquisition of'fire'ap-

2nd Shall the city of Newport Beach incur
a bonded debt for the construction of a fire YES 408

engine house in the sum of `121000.00?
At the election less than two- thirds of all the voters voting there-
at voted in favor of the issurance and sale of the bonds of the city
of Newport Beach on both propositions lst.and 2nd, - --
It was ordered hereby entered of record that authority for the issuance
of said bonds for either of said propositions had been denied.
The term of office of H. Cardoza Sloan and Geo. P. Wilson as trustees
of the City of Newport Beach having expired they vacated their seats
and retired from the Board of Trustees.
Felix B. iSodjeski and Harry H. -`iilliamson having been duly elected as
trustees of the city of i4esrnort Beach presented their certificates of
election, took and subscribed the constitutional oath of office which
were filed with the Clerk, and they being each duly qualified entered
upon and assumed the duties and responsibilities of a trustee of the
city of Newport Beach.
The Clerk thereupon announced that the first order of business was
the election of a President of the Board of Trustees of the city of
Newport Beach, and election by ballot was ',,ad, and Trustee Contad
Richter having received 5 votes and the majority of all votes cast,
was declared elected President of the Board of Trustees of the city
of Newport Beach, and entered upon and assumed the duties and resoon-
ibilities of ?resident of the Board of Truste of the city of Newport
Beach.
Alfred Smith, Clerk elect of the city of Pies,ipart Beach, presented his
certificate of election, took and subscribed the constitutional oath
of office, presented for aporoval his official bond in the sum of A1000.
which bond was thereupon approved by the Board of Trustees and filed

with the President thereof. Alfred Smith then entered upon and assumed
the duties and responsibilities of Clerk of the city of Newport Beach.

R. H. Summers, treasurer elect of the city o=' Newport Beach, presented
his certificate cf. election, took and subscribed the constitutional
oath of ofi'ice, presented for approval his official bond in the sum of
w100,000.00 which bond was thereupon approved by the Board of Trustees
and filed with the li1erk thereof. He then entered upon and assumed
the duties and responsbilites of Treasurer of the city of Newport Beach.
The appointment of officers to fill the vacancies of offices was taken
up and on motion of Trustee Young seconded by Trustee ';'dilliamson and
upon roll call the office of recorder was declared vacant. S. H. I: 'ever
and A. H. ':ilson were nominated for the office of recorder and upon
roll call being taken S. A. Irieyer was declared duly appointed to fill
that office.
The office of city marshall being vacant Trustee Young introduced an
ordinance amending ordinance No. 142 changing the salary of the city
marshall and affixing the compensation for that office the ordinance
was read, considered, designated Ordinance No.288 and referred to the
city attorney.
Cantain David L. Adams was nominated for the office of city Marshall
and 'upon roll call was declared duly appointed. On motion of Trustee
INilkinson seconded by Trustee 'Williamson and carried the bond of the
newly appointed marshall was to be presented to the president of the
board for approval.
' On motion of Trustee 'Silkinson seconded by Trustee ',iilliamson and upon
call of the roll city attorney Clyd Bishop was appointed to succeed
himself.
On motion of Trustee Richter seconded by Trustee '.'.illiamson and upon
call of the roll Dr. Gordon P.S..Grundy was appointed to fill the office
of health officer at a salary of y50.00 per month.
On motion of Trustee :iilliamson seconded by Trustee Young and upon call
of the roll the office of building and plumbing inspector was declared
vacant. On motion of Trustee - illiamson seconded by Trustee '.Iilkinson
upon call of the roll being taken Eugene Fenelon was appointed to fill
the office of "uilding and "Plumbing inspector.
'On motion of Trustee ',.'ilkinson seconded by 'Trustee.Young and carried
the demand of Harry ir. Aldrich was allowed as ^oon as approved bir the
incoming f naftce committee.
The tentative plan for sum *per entertainment as outlined by the advertisin -T
manager, Harry "elch, was ordered filed.
On motion of Trustee young seconded by Trustee iaodjeski and carried the
two demands of Antar Deraga for equipment etc. for housing the instruments
of the life saving stations 2 and 3 were to be allowed •:,,hen made out on
proper demands.
' On motion of Trustee 7jilkinson seconded bI* Trustee '.iilliamson and carried
:,150.00 a month was to Je allowed the library board toward the up keep
of library up to the time of making next tax levy.
The application of Fred .4'ardrop for a permit to run a tango game at Bal-
boa was referred to the new city Marshall for a report on the game.
A petition to replace the cement wall and walk along the ocean front
on the Peninsula washed out'by the high waves, was referred to the Cite
Engineer with power to act.

and filed with the clerk thereof. He then entered upon and assumed
the duties and respons bilites of Treasurer of the city of Newport Beech.

On motion of Trustee ':iilliamson seconded by Trustee Young and upon call
of the roll the office of building and plumbing inspector was declared
vacant. On motion of Trustee - illiamson seconded by Trustee 'ailkinson
upon call of the roll being taken Eugene Fenelon was appointed to fill

Pacific Electric Railway Company in regard to the city getting a ten
foot strip along their right of •:ay from 32nd St. ':lest, reported that
he had it all lined up and the papers would soon be sent east for the
signatures of the proper officers. On motion of Trustee ':•ilkinson
seconded by Trustee Yodjeski and carried the committee was discharged
and thanked by the board for the good work done.

There being no further business on motion of Trustee Williamson seconded
by Trustee Young and carried the meeting was adjourned to 7:30 P.P,:. on
Yionday, April 26, 1926.

The Board of Trustees of the city of Newport Beach
met in regular session at 7:30 o'clock r. M. on above date.
The meeting was called to order by the president, Con-
rad Richter. The roll was called showing full board present.
Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved
as read.
Communications were read and referred to the proper
order of business.
City Marshall Captain Adams reported favorably on '
the tango game of Fred J. ';uardrop and on motion of Trustee N,odjeski
seconded by Trustee Williamson and carried the application was accept-
ed and license to be issued.
Thi9 being the time fixed for the opening of bids
for certain work on certain portions of Coast Boulevard and certain
other streets and avenues in Corona Del M-r within the city of Newport
Beach as contemplated by Resolution of Intention No. 370 of this board.
The board in open session, publicly opened, examined and declared all
sealed bids received for said work, to -wit;
