The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach
met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. on above date's
The roll was called showing full board present.
The minutes of previous meeting were read, corrected,
and approved.
.The reports of heads of departments were read,and
by motion of Trustee Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Modjeski and carried
they were accepted and filed.
The communications were read and upon motion of
Trustee Young,seconded by Trustee Wilkinson and carried the request
of the Balboa Chamber of Commerce that the City take over the play-
ground equipment at talboa was accepted and the Street Superintendent
was instructed to receipt to them for it and see that it was kept in
shape. The Clerk to write and thank them for looking after it so far.

The communication from A.W.Engel asking the return
of the water meter which he stated the water department had taken that
belonged to him, and on motion of Trustee Wilkinson seconded by Trustee
Young and carried the Water Superintendent was instructed to return
the meter if it belonged to Mr Engel.
On motion of Trustee Wilkinson seconded by Trustee
Williamson and carried the communication from Ben Cope in regard to
band election to repair the jetty was filed, to await the result of
Harbor Band election, June 10th.
The application of Ben Cope to build a pier for
C.M.Merrill in front of Lot 4, Block 2, Section 4, Balboa Island, was
referred to the City Engineer for the customary two weeks.
The matter of allowing the Pool and Billiand Halls
to keep open until 1 O'clock A. M. was brought up and Fred W.Young
introduced an ordinance amending Section Two Q2)of Ordinance N0.85 of
the city of Newport Beach-,establishing the hours of opening and clos-
Ing.. Pool and Billiard Rooms. The Ordinance was ordered, filed,read,
connidered,designated Ordinance No. 299 and rederred to the City
Attorney.
On motion of Trustee Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee
Modjeslti and carried, Fire Chief Jackson was authorized to have the
chemical tank on the fire truck repaired if not to exceed twenty
dollars. On motion of Trustee Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee Young and
carried the *request for raise of Salary of the Fire Chief was referr-
ed to the committee of the whole to ascertain what additional service
would be gained. Fire Chief Jackson stated that he needed two Siamese
connections costing twenty dollars eash and one dozen hose straps cost-
ing one dollar, and on motion of Trustee Modjeski,secomded by Trustee
Young and carried, they were allowed.
On motion of Trustee Wilkinson seconded by Trustee
Wilkinson and carried, the application of A.E.Bergman for a license
to run an ice -cream and soft drink stand on Lot Block 222,Sec.A

and the application of S.C.Hoke for a license to operate a Pop Corn
and soft drink wagon on Lot 29, block 15, Tract 234 was granted.
On motion of Trustee Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee
Young and carried, the license of J.A.Alfrod was .transferred to Bub
Bollinger.
The communication of James G.Stafford about the cost
of coming before the Board in regard to Tax Assessment was filed.
' The Clerk was instructed to write to Roy W.McElrath
that this board had not made an offer of Twenty -one Hundred Dollars
for a portion of Lot 1013,First Addition to Newport mesa ''Tract and we
would -go ahead with the condemnation proceedings.
The matter of the records of the Recorders Office -was
brought up and,on motion of Trustee Modjeski,seconded by Trustee.Williamm
son and carried, the Clerk was instructed to write to A.H.Wilson asking
him to turn over all papers, records, etc., received from his predeces-
sor and those he has acquired since taking the office, to the City
Clerk at once.
The matter of repealing a portion of the Bathing Suit
.Ordinance was discussed and Trustee Modjeski introduced an ordinance
repealing certain section of Ordinance No. 133 of the City of Newport
.Beach. The ordinance was ordered filed, read,considered, designated
Ordinance No-. 300 and referred to the City Attorney.
The matter of making an exhibit at Anaheim Orange
Show was considered and on motion of Trustee Williamson,seconded by
Trustee Modjeski and carried, Three Hundred Dollars was to be allowed
out of the advertising fund for making the exhibit.
The matter of a site for a Meteorological Station was
' discussed, and on motion of Trustee Young,seconded by Trustee Modjeski
and carried,the chair was asked to appoint a committee consisting of
two members of the Board and three citizens to confer with James Irvine
regarding donation of a piece of ground about Two Hundred feet Water
Front and Two Hundred and Fifty feet for United States Weather Bureau
Station. The committee appointed are: Trustee Harry H.Williamson,
Fred W.Young, W.H.Burnham, J.P.Greeley and Harry Welch.
The president appointed H.Cardoza S1oan,Lewis A.Briggs,
J.P.Greeley,Eugene Fenelon and Harry H.Williamson as members of the
Planning Commission of Newport 'each, and on motion of Trustee
Wilkinson,seconded by Trustee Modjeski and carried, the appointment
was approved by the Board.
The demands were taken up and on motion of Trustee
Williamson,seconded by Trustee Modjeski and carried, the demand of
Mrs Miriam Porter as Treasurer was allowed only from April 1, to the
19th inclusive.
On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee
Williamson and carried, the demands which were properly made out were
allowed, those unsigned by the payee were to be allowed as soon as
signed, and the demand for tax refunds were referred to the Tax
Collector for approval.
There being no further business on motion of Trustee
Young,seconded by Trustee Modjeski and carried, the meeting adjourned
to 7:30 )'clock P.M. on Monday, May 17, 1926. ,1
