HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/24/1927 - Adjourned Regular MeetingCity Hall, Newport Beach, May 24, 1927• The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regular adjourned session at 11:30 o1clock A. M. on above date. The meeting was called to order by President Conrad Richter. Theroll was called showing-all members present except Trysstee L. S. Wilkinson. On motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee F. B. Modjeska and carried, the reading of the minutes was dispensed with. On motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee F. B. Modjeska and carried, the bond oaf Capt. J. A. Winn in the sum of $1,500.90 was approved. The City Clerk administered the oath of office to Capt. Winn and he assumed the duties of City Marshal at once. Trustee L. S. Wilkinson not being present President Conrad Richter appointed Trustee F. B. Modjeska on the Finance Committee for the meeting. The demand of Virgil Schwartz-for salary due up to the time of his dismissal was presented, and on motion of Trustee F. B. Modjeska seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the demand was allowed. On motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, the application of R. S. Bachman for license to operate a merchandise wheel at 110 Main Street, Balboa, was allowed when approved by the City Marshal. City Marshal Winn appointed R. S. Briggs as Deputy Marshal and Deputy Tax and License Collector, and on motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee F. Be Modjeska and carried, the appoint- ment was approved. Capt. Winn appointed Harry E. Riggs as Police Officer, and on motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, the appointment was approved with a salary of $185.00 when employed as motorcycle Officer. ' On motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, it was resolved-that the name of Capt-. J, A. Minn be substituted for the name of David L. Adams on the card as one to accompany the City Treasurer when opening the safety deposit box at the Merchants National Trust & Savings Bank of Los Angeles. The following appointments were made by Capt. Winn: - Police Officers at $150.00 per month, Ralph Waterlue, Frank Truman, 0. E. Mitchell and Earl Nickles. Motorcycle Officers at $185.00 per month, J. E. Hurley. On motion of Trustee F. Be Modjeska seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, the above appointments were approved. The matter of changing the old comfort station at Balboa to house the Police Ambulance was oonsidered,•and on motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, Building Inspector Fenelon was authorized to make the change at not to exceed $200.00 expense. City Auditor Briggs reported that there•was only $30.00 refund due on the rent of the camp ground store, and on motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee Fred W. Young and carried, the City Auditor was instructed to reimburse Mr. Estue to the extent of $30.00 overpaid in rent. • There being no further business on motion of Trustee F. B.
