City Hall, Newport Beach, Nov. 26, 1925.
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
adjourned session at 7:30 o'clock P. k. on above date. The meeting
was called to order by Mayor Johnson.
The roll was called showing the full Council present.
The minutes of the previous regular meeting and of the special
meeting of November 7, 1928, were read and approved as read.
Councilman Hilmer reported that upon investigation with Life
Guard Barnett they had decided that the jetty was the best place for
the mast on which to display the signals for the harbor entrance, and
one could be erected more reasonable than they thought. The matter was
- therefore referred back to the Police Committee for attention.
Councilman Ellsworth was granted more time to report on the
paving, and in regard to cutting the corner at Cypress and Bay Avenue
it would take about 90 square feet of property which was appraised by
-the owner at $1,500.00. He would advise considering it and the matter
was laid over to next meeting for other members of the Council to
inspect it.
Councilman Ellsworth also reported for the Com-mittee for the
- Airport Chamber of Commerce matter, that we would obtain noth &ng more
by joining them than we get from the National Chamber of Commerce of
which we are now a member, and on his ;notion seconded by Councilman
Williamson and carried, the communication was filed.
The communications were read and acted upon as follows:
The application of the Southern Counties Gas Co. for permission
to cut the pavement in Coast Boulevard in front of the J. H. Estes
building for a gas main was considered, and on motion of Councilman_
Claire seconded by Councilman Ellsworth and carried, the application
was denied.
On motion of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman Hilmer
and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to give them pc_:nission
to put in the gas line where he considers advisable except under the
street.
'on motion of Councilman 'Villiamson seconded by Councilman Claire
and carried, the request of krs. Netting Ponting for transfer of her
Restaurant license to Torn Carson, was granted.
The communication from the Nei-.,port Harbor Chamber of Comn -Ferce
urging that the City have the words "NE.:PORT HARBOR" painted on grater
reservoirs in large letters for the guidance of Aviators, was considered
and on motion of Councilman Williamson seconded by Councilman Hilmer
and carried, the work was authorized at the expense of the City.
On motion of Councilman - Williamson seconded by Councilman Claire
and carried, the communication from the Ne::port Harbor Clamber of
Commerce in regard to traffic at the Arches crossing, was referred to
Councilman Ellsworth and City Engineer Patterson to report on at the
next meeting.
On motion of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman V/illiamson
and carried, the request of Lrs. Della Urquhart for transfer of her
Apartment House license to :ors. J. R. Me Kay, was granted.
On motion of Councilman Filliamson seconded by Councilman Hilmer
and carried, the communication from D. W. Pontius, General Manager of the
Pacific Electric Railway Co. acknowledging receipt of Resolution No. 473
,.,was filed.
The com:unication from the Golden State Holding Co. asking the
City to re-open the matter of allowing them to develops Lots 1 and 2 in
Tideland Location No. 267, was considered, and on motion of Councilman
Claire seconded by Councilman. Hilmer and carried, the communication
' was filed.
On motion of Councilman "„illiamson seconded by Councilman Claire
and carried, the comm•.mication from.-Tax Factors, Inc. in regard to
assessing property, was filed.
The communication from J. H. Estus offering to put in toilets on
the ocean end of Newport Pier was considered, and on motion of Councilman
- Wlliamson seconded by Councilman Hilmer and carried, the matter was
referred to the Street Committee.
On motion of Councilman Hilmer seconded by Councilman Claire and
carried, the communications from Geo. I. Howell, ;(m. H. Bu-nham,•E. A.
Humphrey and others protesting against their taxes in Tract 518, were
filed..

This being the time fixed by Resolution of Intention he. 477,
passed and adopted on the 5th day of November, 1925, for hearing
protests in the matter of the improvement therein described, and
certain written protests having been filed with the City Clerk in said
matter, all of said protests were presented to and considered by the
City Council, and all persons desiring to be heard in the matter of said
protests were heard by said Council, WHEREUPON Councilman Claire moved
that RESOLUTION N0. 477-z entitled:

be adopted, which motion was seconded by Councilman Hilmer and
upon call of the -roll passed by the following vote:
AYES, Councilmen Hilmer, Claire, Ellsworth, 'sJilliamson, Johnson.
NOES, Councilmen None.
ABSEAT, Councilman None.
Councilman Harry H. Williamson introduced a.Resolution entitled:
RESOLUTION ORDERING WORK. The Resolution was read, considered,
designated RESOLUTIO14 N0. 475 and upon call of the roll was passed
by the following vote:
AYES, Councilmen Hilmer, Claire, Ellsworth, Williamson, Johnson.
NOES., Councilmen None.
ABSENT) Councilmen None.
City Engineer Patterson presented a ;Iap from the La Hb.bra Valbey
Land & Water Co. and which called for the vacation of certain streets on
Nev:port Heights. The matter was discussed and on motion of Councilman
17illiamson seconded by Councilman Claire and carried, it was referred to
the Planning Commission for their approval.
City Engineer Patterson also suggested the advisability of having
a medium sized map of the City which is needed very badly at times, and
*.,hick could be gotten out when his men are not busy with other work.
The matter was considered and on motion of Councilman Claire seconded by
Councilman Ellsworth and carried, the City Engineer was authorized to
get out such a map as he desired.
There beinS no further business.on motion of Councilman Claire
seconded by Councilman Hilmer and carried, the meeting adjourned. Sine
Die.

The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
session at 7:30 o'clock P. on above date. The meeting was called
to order by Mayor Johnson.
The roll was called showing the full Council present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved
as read.
The reports of the heads of the departments were read., and on
motion_ of Councilman Claire seconded by Councilman Ellsworth and carried,
the reports were accepted and filed.
As the City Clerk was absent on account of sickness tayor
Johnson appointed Councilman Williamson Clerk pro tem.
City Engineer Patterson reported on the crossing at the Arches,
that he with Nat Neff from the County had made a survey and are now
making a map to submit with a report to this Board and to the State of
California., as a means of correcting the conc-itions existing at this
corner.
Councilman Claire asked for more time go make his report on
the erection of a signal mast at the jetty, which was granted. .
Councilman Ellsworth made a report of erecting signs and repair
of the crossing at 21st Street, Ney!port Beach, and the matter was
turned over to the Street Committee..
