NEW BUSINESS
An ordinance defining certain fermented beverages and
regulating the sale thereof was presented and on motion of Councilman
Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried the ordinance was
passed to the second reading.
An ordinance permitting the sale and shooting of fire works
under certain restrictions within the City of Newport Beach was presented,
and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and
carried, the ordinance was.passed to the second reading.
Resolution No. 789 ielating to a license agreement between
the City of Newport Beach and E. G. and H. M. Greeley was presented,
and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield
the resolution was adopted by the following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Claire, Garfield, Ellsworth.
NOES: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Councilmen Gordon, Hilmer.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council,
it was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield

The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
adjourned session at the City Council Chambers of the City of Newport
Beach at 3:00 o'clock P. M. on above date.
The roll was called showing four members of the Council
present, Councilman Gordon being absent.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read, approved
and signed by the members of the Council.
SPECIAL COMMITTEES:
City Engineer Patterson having submitted an exhaustive report
to Councilman Garfield, Chairman of the Water and Sewer Committee
relative to establishing an equitable charge for sewer service to
Harbor Island, it was moved by Councilman Garfield, seconded by
Councilman Claire and carried, that a charge of twenty dollars ($$20)
pet service be made.
It was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman
Ellsworth and carried that the City Engineer's report regarding the
Harbor island sewer service be filed.
City Attorney Thompson reporting on the matter-of a
iortuary being granted licenses to operate in this City, ruled that
there was no City Ordinance prohibiting same and recommended that
the application of Chezum Brothers and R. A. Powell at their
respective locations be granted, and that the application of William
B. Nuttman be denied, due to no specific location being designated
in the application.

It was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman
Garfield and carried that the applications for Funeral Parlors, filed
by Chezum Bros. at 209 Palm Street and R. A. Powell at 15th & Central
Avenue be granted.
STANDING COMI6ITTEES
The Police Committee reported that the numerous applications
for licenses to sell beer'had been approved.
Councilman Ellsworth reporting on the Live Bait Boat situation
submitted a report recommending that the agreement between the City
and the Newport Beach Fishermen's Protective Association be amended to
eliminate the section pertaining to Live Bait Boats, but leaving the
Association in control of Charter Boats, and on motion of Councilman
Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and 'carried, the report of
Councilman Ellsworth was approved, and the City Attorney was instructed
to make recommendations to the Council in compliance therewith.
COMMUNICATIONS
The application of Alfonse Hamann to operate a restaurant
at Central Avenue and Main Street was, on motion of Councilman Claire,
seconded by Councilman Ellsworth and carried, allowed subject to the
approval of the Health Officer.
The application of Henry Starck for a license to conduct a
lunch stand in the Starck & Swartz Building was on motion of Councilman
Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, allowed subject
to the approval of the Health Officer.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Ordinance No. 414 came up for final passage and after being
read and considered was adopted by the following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Hilmer.
NOES: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Councilman Gordon.
It was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman
Garfield and carried that certain applications for licenses to vend
beverages of a lawful nature having been approved by the Police Committee,
be granted effective May 11, 1933•
City Attorney Thompson presented an Ordinance amending License
Ordinance No. 393 respecting Section 92 -A thereof, and on motion of
Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Ellsworth and carried, the
Ordinance was passed to the second reading.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Council,
it was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Ellsworth and
carried, that an adjournment be taken to Monday May 15, 1933at 7:30
o'clock p. m.
