?" MINUTES OF ADJOURNED SPECIAL MEETING
Newport Beach, November 28, 1934.
The City Council of the city of Newport Beach met in Special
Adjourned session in the City Council Chambers of the city of Newport
Beach at ..8;30 o'clock A. M, on above date with Mayor Hilmer presiding.
The roll was called showing four members of the Council
present, Councilman Ellsworth being absent.
City Engineer Patterson presented a report relating to the
' various bids received for the drilling of two water wells on City owned
land, together with quotations from several firms for the necessary
material needed in connection with the wells.
W. A. Hood, one of the bidders for the drilling of one of the
wells was present and withdrew his bid since it was not based upon or
in keeping with the specifications.
City Attorney Thompson presented and explained a resolution
which would authorize and empower the City Council to appropriate the
sum of $6,000 to be used for the purpose of paying for the materials
and the labor to be performed in the drilling of two water wells on
City owned land; the resolution providing that the City of Newport
Beach enter into contracts with B. F. Page, B. F. Page Jr., and Forrest
Page of Costa Mesa, California, who were deemed to have presented the
lowest responsible bid for the drilling of one of said wells on a
certain ninety -three acre tract of City owned land situated on the South-
east corner of Adams and Wright Streets in Orange County, California,
and providing also for the City of Newport Beach to enter into a contract
with W. H. Edgecomb and A. C. Steward who were deemed to have presented
the lowest repponsible bid for the drilling of a well on a certain
thirty -four acre tract of City owned land situated on the corner of
FairSiew and Huntzinger Avenues in Orange County, California. The
resolution further providing that the materials required for the well
to be drilled on the certain ninety -three acre tract of City owned land
to be purchased from the State Steel Products, Inc., of Santa Ana,
'California, at the prices submitted by said firm and that the materials
required for the well to be drilled on the certain thirty -four acre tract
of City owned land to be purchased from the Utilities Supply Co. of
Los Angeles, California, at the prices submitted.
The resolution which provided for the execution of the above
.named contracts by the Mayor and City Clerk on behalf of the City of
Newport Beach, was designated Resolution No. 862 and on motion of
Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield was adopted by the
following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Garfield, Hilmer.
NOES: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Councilman Ellsworth.
City Engineer Patterson brought up the question of certain
SERA projects as suggested by the City Planning Commission, whereupon
Councilman Claire moved that Mayor Hilmer be authorized to sign
application to the State Emergency Relief Association for approval of
the following work project: -
Grading of public beaches; grading of parkways, 8orona del Mar;
Construction of bulkhead on Balboa Island; and Construction of
storm drain at 57th Street;
and sign any necessary agreements required by the State Emergency Relief
Association, which motion was duly seconded by Councilman Gordon and
upon roll call was passed by the following vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Garfield, Hilmer.
NOES: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Councilman Ellsworth.

A resolution authorizing the employment of SERA clerical
help was presented, and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by
Councilman Gordon, was passed by the following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Garfield, Hilmer.
NOES: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Councilman Ellsworth

All of the business for which the Special Adjourned meeting
was called for having been disposed of, it was moved by Councilman
Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, that the Council
adjourn Sine Die.

The City Council of the city of Newport Beach met in regular
session in the City Council Chambers of "the city of Newport Beach at
7:30 P. M. on above date with Mayor Hilmer in the Chair.
The roll was called showing the full Council present.
REPORTS OF HEADS OF DEPARTLENTS
The report of the City Treasurer and Auditor was read, and on
motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried,
the report was accepted, the reading of the reports of other Heads of
Departments dispensed with and all the reports ordered filed.
REPORTS uF SPECIAL COILVITTEES
City Attorney Thompson reported on the ordinance relating to
the publication of the deliquent tax roll, and advised that same
would be ready for presentation to the Council at the next meeting
thereof. ,

A list of the extra help employed for the month-in the
Street and Engineering Departments was read, and on motion of Councilman
Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried, the same was
approved and ordered filed..
