The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
adjourned session in the City Council Chambers of the City of Newport
Beach at 1D o'clock A. M. on above date with Mayor Fulmer. in the Chair.
.The roll was called showing the full Council present with the
exception of Councilman Garfield who apprived at 10:30 A. M.
REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES None.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES None.
COMMUNICATIONS
The communication of the U. S. District Engineer regarding
the application of The Irvine Company for permission to dredge certain
areas in the vicinity of Balboa Island, was read and on motion of
Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, the
matter was referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Emergency Resolution No. 889 came up for final passage, being
a resolution instructing the City Engineer to purchase the necessary
materials and hire sufficient labor to construct and erect a comfort
station on city owned property at Corona del Mar. The adoption of the
resolution was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Gordon
and passed by the following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Ellsworth, Hilmer.
NOES: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Councilman Garfield.
Ordinance No. 435 being an ordinance prohibiting.the operation
' of certain games in the City of Newport Beach, came up for final passage,
and on advice of the City Attorney action on same was set over until
the next meeting of the City Council.
City Attorney Thompson took up the matter of default in connect-
ion with the 1915 Assessment Act, reading several communications in
relation thereto and explained in detail the status of certain cases
now pending pertaining to same.
City Engineer Patterson brought up the matter of the lease
by the U. S. War Department of the city owned building located on the
Washington Street pier. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by
Councilman Ellsworth and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to
negotiate the lease for the ensuing year.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the meeting,
it was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Ellsworth
and carried, that an adjournment be taken to 7:30 o'clock P. M.
