Newport Beach, December 30, 1935-
The City Council of the city of Newport Beach met in regular
adjourned session in the City Council Chambers of the city of Newport
Beach at 7.30 o'clock P. U. on above date with kayor Hilmer presiding.
The roll was called showing the full Council present.
REPORTS OF SPECIAL COPiJTTEM
' Councilman Claire advised that the report on the newer plan
was not ready for presentation.
Councilman Gordon and City Engineer Patterson reporting on
the matter of moving the float now at the 19th Street pier to the
Fernando Street pier and the construction of a new and larger float
for the 19th Street pier, together with an extension of the pier. On
motion of Councilman Gordon, seconded by Councilman Garfield and
carried, the City Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for the
building of the float and the pier extension.

CM UNICATIONS
The letter of Gladys V. Rhodes requesting that some action be
taken toward filling in sand fronting on certain lots in Tract 746, was
on motion of Councilman Gordon, seconded by Councilman Garfield and
carried, Laid on the Table.
The letter of 0. J. Carlson, Regional Executive of the Boy
Scouts of America, thanking the Council for assistance during the
Regional Sea Scout Rendezvous held here last November, was read, and
on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and
carried, the letter was ordered filed.
The application of Frank Horvath for permission to install
anchor piles in front of Lot 9, Block 425, Lancaster Addition, was on
' motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield and carried,
referred to the City Engineer.
The letter of R. Cole consisting of a complaint against the
City Building Inspector, was on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded
by Councilman Garfield and carried, referred to Councilmen Gordon and
Ellsworth for investigation. Par. Cole also addressed the Council
concerning the matter.
Letters from numerous property owners in the business zone
of Balboa urging the Council to amend the ordinance prohibiting the
playing of certain games, were read, and the matter discussed by the
Council. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield
and carried, it was referred to a committee consisting of the Police
Committee, City Attorney and Chief of Police fer report and recommendation.
UNFIdISHED BUSINESS
ZONING ORDINA JCE
Protests against further zoning for business on Balboa Island
and Fernando Street were read, and on motion of Councilman Claire,
seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, all the protests were ordered
filed.
On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield
and carried, the report of the Planning Commission was accepted and
ordered filed.
On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman
Ellsworth and carried, the Zoning Ordinance as submitted by the Planning
Commission and designated as Ordinance ido. 440, was passed to the
second reading.

On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield
and carried, the Street Superintendent was authorized to build an
extension to the northerly end of 20th Street to conform with the
adjoining property lines.

The renewal of the agreement between the City of Newport
Beach and Darrell W. King for certain Live Bait Boat concessions on
the Newport pier was brought up. Resolution No. 933 authorizing the
extension of the agreement to January 1, 1935 was presented, the adoption
of same being moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield
and,passed by the following vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Gordon, Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Hilmer.
NOES: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Councilmen None.
Mayor Hilmer brought up the matter of traffic conditions on '
Park Avenue, Balboa Island, and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded
by Councilman Ellsworth and carried, the Chief of Police was directed
to install traffic signs limiting the speed on Park Avenue.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council,
it was moved by Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Garfield
and carried, that an adjournment be taken Sine Die.
